Last Will and Testament of
Catherine Murphy of St. John's
Spinster deceased.

      This is the last will and testament of me Catherine Murphy of Saint John's in the Island of Newfoundland, Spinster. I give and bequeath unto the very Reverend Dean Ryan of Saint John's the sum of Twenty dollars to offer ten masses for the repose of my soul and ten masses for the repose of the soul of John Gibbons. I give and bequeath to the Reverend C. H. O'Neil of Saint John's the sum of Twenty dollars to offer ten Masses for the repose of my soul, and ten masses for the repose of the soul of my brother Patrick Murphy. I give and bequeath unto the Reverend William Jackman of Saint John's the sum of Twenty dollars to offer masses for the repose of the soul of my father James Murphy. I give and bequeath unto the Reverend P. O'Brien of Saint John's the sum of ten dollars to offer masses for the repose of the soul of my mother Catherine Murphy. I also give and bequeath unto the Reverend Father White of Saint John's the sum of ten dollars to offer masses for the repose of my mother's soul. I give and bequeath unto the Reverend Edmund Crook of Saint John's the sum of ten dollars to offer masses for the repose of the soul of my sister Frances E. Gibbons, and I give and bequeath unto the Right Reverend Monsignor Scott of Saint John's the sum of ten dollars to offer masses for the repose of the soul of my sister Mary Murphy. I give and bequeath unto the Reverend Brother Slattery of Saint John's, the sum of Twenty dollars towards the support and maintenance of the orphan boys of Mount Cashel to have them pray for the repose of my soul. I give and bequeath unto the Reverend Mother Superioress of St. Michael's Orphanage Belvidere, the sum of Twenty dollars towards the support and maintenance of the orphan girls, to have them pray for the repose of my soul.
I give and bequeath unto my nephew James Gibbons the sum of eighty dollars, unto my niece Elizabeth Dee the sum of sixty dollars unto my nephew John Gibbons the sum of forty dollars unto my Grand niece Mary Simms the sum of forty dollars.

What money is left in the Bank belonging to me after all the bequests made in this my will are settled. I give and bequeath unto my niece Catherine Gibbons, I also give devise and bequeath unto her my said niece Catherine Gibbons my two dwelling houses on New Gower Street, my house in Tank Lane on the back of John Simm's Stable and my double house next to John Simm's stable.

I give devise and bequeath unto my niece Catherine Mockler that piece of land belonging to me on Pleasant Street measuring in or about nineteen or twenty feet frontage together with the dwelling house thereon.
I give devise and bequeath unto my Grand nephew John Sullivan my house and land on Plank Road
I give devise and bequeath unto my nephew Henry Simms my house in Tank Lane opposite Mo???arrou's property also the sum of Forty dollars for his time and trouble in carrying out the intentions of this my will and I hereby appoint him my said nephew Henry Simms sole executor of this my will. (Sgd) Kate Murphy. Dated at St. John's this twenty third day of February A.D. 1900. Signed by the said Testatrix Catherine Murphy as and for her last will and testament in the presence of us present at the same time, who in her presence, and in the presence of each other have hereto subscribed our names as witnesses.
