Will of Catherine Murphy from Newfoundland will books volume 5 page 124-126 probate year 1887 Last will and Testament of Catherine In the name of God Amen. I Catherine Murphy widow of the late James Murphy of the Old Petty Harbour Road do hereby make the following as and for my last will and Testament. First. I give and bequeath and devise unto my son William Murphy Carman the dwelling house situate in River Head in the Town of St. John's in which he now resides also a field situate on the old Cooks Marsh Road containing about four acres adjoining land owned by Wm. Kelly and Richard Cormack. Second. I give and bequeath to my son Michael Murphy the Farm dwelling house and premises now occupied by me together with all the outhouses and erections thereon the stock cows horses and all and every article and appurtenance whatsoever to the said farm belonging also all that piece or parcel of land situate on the Petty Harbour Ridge and bounded as follows. On the East by property formerly owned by Gregory Griffin on the west by unoccupied land on the North by a line of road and on the South by waste land containing about nineteen acres more or less. Also one of my dwelling houses situate at River Head in the Town of St. John's aforesaid and lately in the occupancy of one Form and west to the house occupied by my son John Murphy Fourth. I give and bequeath and devise unto my son Patrick the other half of the Field situate between the old and new Bay Bulls Roads measuring in extent about four acres at present tilled by my said son Patrick and adjoining the four acre lot left in this my will to my son Henry. Fifth I give and bequeath and devise unto my two sons Henry and William the double house or two tenements situate at River Head in the Town of St. John's aforesaid the one occupied by Mr. Turant to be for my son Henry and that one occupied by one Gillow to go to my son William he only having a life interest in the said house and at his death the said tenement is to go to my little grandson James son of my son Michael Murphy. Sixth. I give and bequeath to my two step sons Peter and James Murphy twenty pounds each Seventh I desire that out of whatever monies my executor hereinafter mentioned shall have belonging to me after the payment of all my just debts and legacies and funeral expenses he shall divide equally amongst the following children of mine namely Margaret wife of William Tobin, William, Henry Patrick John Catherine wife of John Ryan and ???? I hereby constitute and appoint Edward P. Morris Barrister at law to be the sole executor of this my last will and Testament - Catherine her x mark Murphy - In witness whereof the said Testatrix published and declared the foregoing as and for her last will and Testament by affixing her mark thereto in our presence who before her in ??? of one another hereto subscribe our names as witnesses this twenty first day of August A.D. 1886.
