Last Will and Testament of
Ann Murphy of Bonavista N.D.

The last will and Testament
of Ann Murphy of Keels Bonavista Bay Newfoundland Spinster. I Ann
Murphy of Keels being in possession of my faculties do hereby
make this my last will and Testament
In the first place I devise and
direct that out of the monies I have in the Savings Bank at St. John’s Newfoundland
there deposited in the name of the Rev T.E Lynch of
Kings Cove that the sum of Three hundred dollars ($300.00) be spent for
the erection of a monument with rail in memory of my mother and myself.
Secondly. I devise and direct that the sum of one hundred dollars shall
be devoted and spent for the purpose of repairing the graves of my late
father John Murphy, Michael Murphy and Ellen
Murphy -
Thirdly I desire
and direct that the sum of Two hundred dollars ($200.00) be given to
the clergy of the Roman Catholic Church in Newfoundland for the purpose
of Masses to be said for my mother and for myself one of which masses
I desire to be high mass with office and I direct that Twenty dollars
out of the two hundred dollars so willed be devoted for the purpose of
said high mass.
Fourthly. I direct that the balance of said
money deposited in the Savings Bank as before mentioned after payment
of all my debts and all expenses in connection with the settlement of
my estate shall be given to my nephew John Murphy Junr son of my brother
John and I desire and direct that money so devised be given to said John
Murphy in small amounts as he may need and I also further direct that
any other monies I may die possessed of and not otherwise devised or
bequeathed by me shall be given to the said John Murphy Junr and
to be paid in the way and manner before mentioned.
I further devise
and bequeath to the Revd. Thomas E. Lynch Parish Priest of Kings Cove
in trust the sum of Seven hundred eighty one dollars ($781.00) now on
deposit in the Bank of Montreal at St. John’s to be spent by him
the said Rev. Thomas E. Lynch for the purpose of educating my two nieces
viz: Ann Murphy daughter of my brother John
Murphy and Bridget Ryan of
Broad Cove daughter of Stephen Ryan said money to be spent one half for
each for purpose named and at the discretion of the said Rev
T. E. Lynch.
I
give and bequeath to my niece Ann Murphy before mentioned the land at
Keels and the land at San Croix near Keels of which I am owner. I give
and bequeath to my nephews Thomas Ryan, Thomas Joy and John
Giovannine in equal parts all my land at St. John’s on
the Freshwater Road.
And I hereby constitute and appoint Daniel A. Ryan
Esq Merchant of Kings Cove the Executor of this my last will and Testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this Thirtieth day of
June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety seven
(A.D. 1897) (sgd) Ann Murphy (LS) Signed Sealed and delivered by the
said Ann Murphy in our presence who in her presence and in the presence
of each other at the same time subscribe our names as witnesses (sgd)
