Will of Edward Morris from Newfoundland will books volume 5 pages 109-111 probate year 1887

The last Will and Testament
of Edward Morris late of St. John's
Gentleman deceased.

In the name of the Blessed and Holy Trinity the father son and Holy Ghost. The last will and Testament of Edward Morris of St. John's Nfld. I will and bequeath all and everything which I possess (with certain reservations herein after explained) in equal shares or parts to my beloved wife and daughter Catherine my wife and Annie my daughter My wife Catherine Morris I wish to be executrix assisted by her brothers John Howley and William Howley as executors. My farm called Branscomb's Pond farm situate on Topsail Road and let to Patrick Cain and John Nash is to belong soley to my daughter Annie but is to form part of the General property and be managed by my executors for the mutual benefit of my said wife and daughter. This farm is to belong to the survivor of them and after the death of both then the farm is to belong for ever to the Roman Catholic Bishop of Saint John's for the time being, to be disposed of as he may please for the Glory of God and of his holy church and for the benefit of the souls of Simon Morris Edward Morris and the souls of the wife and daughter of the said Edward.
Sixty five shares in the St. John's General Water Company and seventy five shares in the Harbor Grace Water Company jointly of the cost value of seven hundred pounds which bear interest at five per cent per annum, together with a Dry Dock debenture No 85 dated 1st July 1884 for twelve hundred and fifty dollars bearing interest at four per cent per annum. I wish to dispose of in this way. The interest of Thirty five pounds a year upon the water Company stock and twelve pounds two shillings a year on the Dry dock stock to be collected for the use and benefit of my wife and daughter during their lives and for the use and benefit of the survivor of them and after their death these debentures are to be assigned to the convent of Mercy Belvedere for the benefit of the orphanage under charge of the nuns of the said convent With these reservations every thing of which I am possessed is to belong in equal parts to my beloved wife and daughter.
The property hereby bequeathed is the leasehold interest to 20th April 1921 of two houses in Cochrane Street. The furniture and goods of every kind contained in the house occupied by me. The farm called Branscombe's pond farm let to Cain & Nash Debentures of the Colony to the amount of. The water Co stock value seven hundred pounds and the Dry dock debenture No 85 value three hundred and twelve pounds ten shillings. The interest only for the benefit of my wife and daughter for their lives and after their death to revert to the Belvedere Orphanage in principal as well as interest All other money that I may have in the Savings Bank and all money due to me if any by said Bank is to belong to my wife and daughter in equal shares. The money deposited in the Savings Bank and for which they hold books belongs to them irrespective of this will. In the name of God Amen.
St. John's Newfoundland this 25th day of July 1885 Edward Morris. The Reverend Michael Howley having left St. John's I wish William Howley to act as one of my executors Feb 8: 1886 E. Morris.
