Will of John Moore

Last will and Testament of
John Moore of St. John’s Farmer
deceased

      In the name of God Amen. This is the last will and Testament of me John Moore of St. John’s farmer.
First I give and bequeath to Ellen Moore my wife all my goods and chattels. The furniture goods and chattels that belonged to Catherine Sullivan I give to William George Sullivan to possess the same after the death of my wife. The house I now reside in I bequeath to the said William George Sullivan to possess the same with the land on which said house is built and the rents and profits thereof after the death of my said wife. I bequeath the remainder of the land down the hill belonging to me to the said William George Sullivan except the house and ground which Ann Moore now occupies which I bequeath to Bridget Moore after my wifes death.
I bequeath to John Moore my Grandson the dwelling house and land adjoining my own also the piece of land up the hill except the house and land purchased by me from Ryan which I bequeath to Bridget Moore to possess the same after my wifes death. Should William George Sullivan Bridget Moore or John die then the above bequests to them shall be equally divided between the survivors - Ann Moore shall whilst she remains single receive the rents of the house and land I purchased from Ryan after the death of my wife Ellen Moore.
I give and bequeath all the rents of my property to my wife Ellen Moore during her lifetime. I revoke all other wills made by me and declare this to be my last will and Testament. I appoint my wife Ellen Moore Executrix to this my last will and Testament. Dated at St. John’s in the Island of Newfoundland this fifteenth day of November Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and ninety seven. (Sgd) John his X mark Moore. Signed Published and declared as and for the last will and Testament of me John Moore in my presence and in the presence of the subscribing witnesses hereto.
