Will of Susannah Sawyera Milroy
from Newfoundland will books volume 6 pages 149-150 probate year 1894

Last Will and Testament of
Susannah S. Milroy of St. John's
Widow deceased.

      This is the last will of me Susanna Sawers Milroy of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland widow. I hereby revoke all former wills and codicils made by me. I appoint Sir Robert Thorburn and the Reverend William Graham executors and trustees of this my will. I give unto my trustees one fourth of the shares held by me in the Union Bank of Newfoundland and in the Bank of Montreal upon trust to hold the said shares or to sell the same and to invest the same in other securities at their discretion and to pay the income arising therefrom unto my daughter Margaret Isabella McDougall wife of Reverend Daniel McDougall of Berriedale Caithness Scotland Parish Minister during her life-time And if she should predecease her said husband then to pay the said income unto the said Daniel McDougall during his life time And upon the death of both the said Margaret Isabella McDougall and her said husband I give the said Corpus to be divided equally between such of my children as shall be living at the death of the said Daniel McDougall and Isabella McDougall: And if none of my children shall be then surviving I give the said Corpus unto the children of my son Samuel Carson Milroy -

The remaining three fourths of my said shares I give unto my children Susanna Janetta Thorburn, Samuel Carson Milroy and Arthur Milroy in equal portions.

I give the following legacies namely:

  • To my sister Margaret Howe if she survive me the sum of one hundred dollars:
  • To my said daughter Susanna Janetta Thorburn my secretaire and table napkins of Old Late:
  • To Margaret Isabell McDougall my desk inlaid with brass, my cake basket my wearing apparel the rest of my table napkins and silver salver:
  • To Samuel Carson Milroy the epengire with inscription a silver salver and half of my spoons knives and forks in the plate chest and ten books to be selected by him from the books in my possession :
  • To Arthur Milroy my silver tea and coffee set, the other half of my spoons knives and forks, and my silver ladle:
  • To my grandsons Robert Milroy Thorburn, Andrew John Thorburn and William Thorburn five books each to be selected by my executors:
  • To Alison Graham wife of Reverend William Graham my silver fish slice the largest of the silver salvers and my brooch which contains my sisters hair.
  • To Maud Milroy daughter of Samuel Carson Milroy my gold watch and chain and to the second daughter of my said son my cameo brooch,
  • Also to my son Arthur the seals and trinkets on my watch chain.

I give all my property not otherwise disposed of and all the rest residue and remainder of my estate unto my said son Arthur Milroy
In witness whereof I have set my hand to this my will this nineteenth day of February one thousand eight hundred and ninety four. (Sgd) Susanna S. Milroy. Signed by the above named Susanna Sawers Milroy as her last will in the presence of us being present at the same time who in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses (sgd) William H. Horwood (Sgd) Jane Nelder.

      I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament of Susanna S. Milroy deceased
