Will of Patrick Henry McDermott
from Newfoundland will books volume 15 page 10 probate year 1929. Will is dated 1917, and Patrick Henry McDermott died 9 Sep 1929.

PATRICK HENRY McDERMOTT

I, Patrick Henry McDermott, of St John's, Sergeant of Police, do hereby make this my last will and testament;

  1. I hereby revoke all former wills and testaments by me at any time made and declare this to be my last will and testament.
  2. I direct the executrix of this my last will and testament to pay out of my estate the sum of $100 in masses for the repose of the souls of my wife and myself.
  3. All the rest, residue and remainder of my property, goods, chattels and effects of whatsoever nature and kind and wheresoever situate I gave, devise and bequeath to my adopted daughter, Sister Mary Baptiste, absolutely.
  4. In the event of my said adopted daughter, Sister Mary Baptiste, predeceasing me all the property intended to be bequeathed by me to her under paragraph 3 herein I give devise and bequeath to the Superieress, of the Mercy Convent for the use and purposes of the said Convent.
  5. I hereby appoint my said adopted daughter Sister Mary Baptiste, to be the sole executrix hereof. In the event of my said adopted daughter predeceasing me I appoint the Superioress of the Mercy Convent to be the sole executrix hereof in her stead.

Note: This is a transcription of a will for my wife's grand aunt's adoptive father. The executrix named, Sister Mary Baptist of the Mercy Sisters, born Margaret Mary Davis and adopted as Margaret Mary McDermott is also deceased. She died in Boston, MA in 1950 and was buried at the Mercy Sisters Convent in Rhode Island. From Family History Library microfilm #2070900, Newfoundland Supreme Court Will books, v. 14 (from p. 450)-v. 15, 1929-1932.
