Last will and Testament of
Felix McCarthy of Carbonear N.D.
Sub. Collector H.M. Customs
In the name of God Amen
I Felix McCarthy of
Carbonear in the Island of Newfoundland Sub Collector of Customs being
of sound mind and memory do this twenty eighth day of January in the
year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety seven make and
publish this my last Will and Testament in the manner and form following
that is to say First I give and bequeath
to my sisters Isabella Angela and Theresa jointly
for ever all that Dwelling house with the Furniture Beds Bedding Plate
and Books contained therein together with the outhouses cattle and land
belonging to the said Dwelling house and situate on the North side of
St. Patrick Street Carbonear aforesaid. Also that piece or parcel of
Land with all the erections therein situate on the South side of Water
Street Carbonear aforesaid and bounded as follows namely on the North
by Water Street on the South by the Harbor on the East by the property
belonging to the Estate of the late George Forward and
on the West by the property belonging to the Estate of the late William
Brown. Also my interest in and to that Dwelling house
and Shop with the outhouses and land belonging there to and now in the
occupancy of Hugh Cameron. Also my interest
in and to that piece or parcel of land situate at Crocker's Cove, Carbonear
aforesaid and now in the occupancy of John Kennedy of
Crocker's Cove aforesaid. Also my interest in and to that house and land
situate near Number one Firebreak Carbonear aforesaid and now occupied
by John Brien as a barn. Secondly I
give and bequeath after all my lawful debts are paid to my Sisters Isabella
Angela and Theresa above
named jointly the Insurance on my Life Policy namely Two thousand dollars
together with all other monies that may belong to me at the time of my
decease and that may be then due to me on condition that the following
bequests be made out of the said monies namely Twenty five dollars to
St. Josephs Convent Carbonear and one hundred dollars for Masses for
my soul. Thirdly that should my sister Mary return
from New York to reside in Carbonear she shall during her widowhood have
the use of the said Dwelling house and furniture jointly with my other
sisters as above named. Fourthly reserving
always the rights of my Sister Bridget to
the use of the said Dwelling house and furniture jointly with my other
sisters named in this my last Will and Testament. Lastly on
the death of any of my three Sisters Isabella Angela and
Theresa herein
named the survivors or survivor shall enjoy full right jointly or severally
to the herein before bequests jointly made to the said three Sisters
the words survivors and survivor meaning none but the said Isabella
Angela and Theresa.
And I do hereby ordain constitute and appoint the Reverand
Felix D. McCarthy c.c. Carbonear and Pierce
Finn of
Carbonear aforesaid Executors to this my last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set and subscribed my hand
and seal the day and year first above written.

in his presence and in the presence of us each
other have hereunto subscribed our names as
