Will of William Matchem Senior
from Newfoundland will books volume 7 page 8 probate year 1900

Last Will and Testament of
William Matchem of Gaultois
Planter deceased.

      This is the last will and Testament of me William Matchem Senior at present of Gaultois Hermitage Bay Newfoundland Planter. I hereby direct that at my decease all my funeral and testamentary expenses and all my just debts be first paid and settled. And after my death it is my desire that my wife Elizabeth Matchem shall hold possession of all my premises at Gaultois including houses flake stage and all fishing skiffs & nets and Household furniture beds bedding and all other properties of every sort and description to be occupied and enjoyed by her for her support and maintenance as long as she shall live. Also to receive the interest on all monies due to me or that may become due to me from any source whatever for her use and benefit as long as she lives. And at her decease I do hereby give and bequeath to my son William Matchem at present of Gaultois Hermitage Bay Newfoundland the whole of the aforesaid and described premises with all my personal effects and all monies in my possession at the time of my decease or that may become due to me from any source whatever for his sole and absolute use and benefit for ever. And I hereby appoint Edward Clench Gallop of Gaultois executor of this my will.
In witness whereof I have to this my last will and Testament set my hand and seal this first day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety one. (Sgd) William his x mark Matchem Senr. (LS) Signed sealed and delivered by the Testator the said William Matchem in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses it having first been read over and explained to him. (Sgd) W. T. Rive. (Sgd) J. T. Hardy. Witnesses

      I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament of William Matchem Sr. deceased
