from Newfoundland will books volume 6 page 49 probate year 1893

Last Will and Testament of
James Ludlow of Fogo
Planter deceased.

      In the name of God Amen I James Ludlow, Planter, of Back Cove, Fogo Newfoundland being of sound mind and memory do hereby make this my last will and Testament viz - I give and bequeath to my two sons Alfred and James Ludlow the whole of my landed property fishing gear etc and whatsoever other property including all monies I may die possessed of. - conditionally upon they the said Alfred and Jas. Ludlow undertaking the support and maintenance of my wife, their mother in law Amey Ludlow and youngest daughter Patience Ludlow until changing her name, the aforesaid property to be enjoyed by my two sons Alfred & James Ludlow their heirs & Executors for ever - Reserving only my family Bible to be come the property of afore named youngest daughter Patience Ludlow. And any possible kindness to be shown by said two sons to their sister Eliza, wife of Wm. Torravill.
I also appoint the Rev. I. Christopher Wood Ch. of England Pastor of Fogo as my Executor Witness this at Fogo Newfdld. the twenty ninth day of April one thousand eight hundred and eighty five (sgd) James his X mark Ludlow. Signed and declared by the aforesaid James Ludlow in our presence, who in his presence, and in the presence of each other hereunto affix our signatures (sgd) Christopher Wood. (Sgd) Martin Stone.

      I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament of James Ludlow deceased
