Last will and testament of
Ellen Liddy of St. John's

.

This is the last will and testament of me Eleanor Liddy of St. John's in the island of Newfoundland widow. I give devise and bequeath unto my granddaughter Isabella Murphy now residing with me all my right title and interest in and to all that piece or parcel of land situate on Freshwater and Newtown roads near the town of St. John's aforesaid and containing about three acres together with dwelling house thereon known as "Ash Leaf Cottage" and all outhouses and erections thereon and all stock and property of whatever description on the said land or in the said dwelling house or outhouses and all the household furniture and personal effects of every description whatsoever in the said house or else where also all my interest in that property known as "Cahills Estate" situate on Freshwater Road aforesaid and consisting principally of a dwelling house at present in the occupancy of one O'Donnell a tenant of mine and the three fields adjoining the said house and forming a portion of the said property also all my interest in the ten tenements situate on James Street in the town of St. John's aforesaid also all my interest in that property known as the "Marsh Hill Property" situate on Marsh Hill in the town of St. John's aforesaid and consisting of nine tenements. Now the conditions upon which I give devise and bequeath the aforementioned property as well as all other lands goods chattels and effects of which I shall die possessed to my said granddaughter Isabella Murphy is first that out of the rents profits and issues arising out of the said properties she shall first pay to my executor hereinafter named the sum of twenty dollars annually in perpetuity to be devoted by my said executors for the celebration of masses for the repose of my soul and severally pay all my just debts funeral expense and testamentary bequests to have and to hold the said properties goods chattels monies and effects free from the control of any husband she may have. I hereby nominate and appoint Edward Rawlins of St. John's Grocer sole executor of this my will. I hereby revoke cancel and annul all other wills and codicils hereby made by me. In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and hand by affixing my mark at St. John's aforesaid this 3rd day of March A.D. 1888. (Sgd) Eleanor her x mark Liddy. Signed by the said testatrix (by affixing her mark) as her last will and testament in the presence of us who in her presence at her request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses the day and year first above written (the same having been first read over and explained to the testatrix) (Sgd) E. P. Morris (Sgd) Edward J. Rawlins.

This is a codicil to the last will and testament of me Eleanor Liddy which will bears the 3rd day of March A.D. 1888. Whereas in my said will I have expressed as a condition that my said granddaughter Isabella Murphy shall pay to my executor in perpetuity the sum of twenty dollars for masses for my soul. Now it is my will that instead of the said sum being paid in perpetuity it shall be paid only for four years. In all other respects I confirm my said will. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name by affixing my mark at St. John's aforesaid this 19th day of April A.D. 1888. (Sgd) Eleanor her x mark Liddy. Signed by the said testatrix by affixing her mark as her last will and testament in the presence of us who in her presence at her request & in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses the same being first read over and explained to the said testatrix. (Sgd) E. P. Morris (sgd) Edward J. Rawlins.

I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and testament and codicil of Eleanor Liddy deceased.
