Will of Francis Scott Knight
from Newfoundland will books volume 8 pages 595-596 probate year 1909

In re
      Francis Scott Knight          deceased.

      This is the last will of me Francis Scott Knight of St. John’s Newfoundland, tidewaiter, and I revoke all former wills by me made. I appoint my wife Mary L. Knight and my niece Emma Knight, daughter of the late George L Knight, executors of this my will. I give all my property of whatsoever kind (including money) to my said wife to be used by her to maintain herself during life and my said niece until married, in the manner in which my said wife and niece now live and the residue of my estate at the death of my wife I give absolutely to my niece.
      If my said niece should predecease my said wife and leave a child or children such of the children that are living at the death of my wife shall take if more than one equally between them, and if only one, all the said residue or share which was intended for their mother, my niece. If my said niece shall predecease my said wife without leaving child or children living at the death of my wife, my wife shall possess all my property absolutely and notwithstanding the foregoing disposition of my property I declare that any other disposition of the same to which my wife and said niece are consenting parties and which consent is expressed in writing under their signatures shall not be a disposition of my property contrary to the intention of this my will but shall have all the effect as if I so directed it.
In witness whereof I have set my hand to this my will the 20th day of September A.D. 1903 The word “if” being first inserted three lines above     F. S. Knight    Signed by the above named Francis Scott Knight as his last will in the presence of us both being present at the same time who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses W. V. Whiteway    Jas. J. McGrath.
