Will of Mary Jane King
from Newfoundland will books volume 7 pages 119-120 probate year 1901

Last Will and Testament of
Mary Jane King of St. John's
Widow deceased.

      I Mary Jane King of Carnell Street, Saint John's, in the Island of Newfoundland, being of sound mind and understanding, do make and declare this to be my last will and testament.
First. I give and bequeath to my niece Effie Higgins, my dwelling house No 4 Carnell Street, St. John's in the Island aforesaid, and all the land and property connected therewith, the same to be held in trust for her by her mother, Tryphena Higgins, until she is eighteen years of age.
Second. I give and bequeath to my brother-in-law John Archibald King, my late husband's Gold watch.
Third. My furniture and personal effects I will and bequeath as follows:- To my cousin Jessie Churchill one feather bed. To my sincere friend Mrs Eliza Barnes, the two large pictures now hanging in my front room and one of my trunks. To my two cousins, Martha Jane Rhodes and Mrs Jemmina Fry, all my personal clothing, bedding household linens, cutlery and silverware, the same to be devoted as I have directed them. To my sister-in-law, Mrs Tryphena Higgins, my two rings
Fourth. I will and bequeath that the rest, residue and remainder of property and monies of which I may die possessed after payment of my just debts, funeral, testamentary and other expenses has been made, be equally divided between my sister-in-law, Mrs Tryphena Higgins aforementioned, my cousin Mrs Tryphena Benson and my uncle Frederick Churchill giving one third to each.
Fifth. I hereby appoint Alexander Scott of Saint Johns, Newfoundland in the Island aforesaid the sole executor of my will and direct that upon my decease he takes charge of all my effects, make all funeral arrangements, providing a good and suitable casket and all other accessories for my burial and request that he pay all my debts and discharge all funeral expenses as soon as possible after my decease. Dated at Saint John's aforesaid this twentieth day of November 1901 (sgd) Mary Jane her x mark King. Signed sealed and declared by the said Mary Jane King as and for her last will and testament in our presence who in her presence and at her request and in the presence of each other have hereto subscribed our names as witnesses. (Sgd) Robert Pittman. (Sgd) Alexander Scott.
