Will of Thomas Kersey
from Newfoundland will books volume 6 page 282 probate year 1896

Last Will and Testament of
Thomas Kersey of Portugal Cove Road
Farmer deceased.

      In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Kersey Farmer at Winsor Lake in the Parish of St. John's Newfoundland being at present of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God but calling to mind the mortality of the body knowing that it is appointed once to die do on this 20th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety three make and ordain this my last will and Testament that is to say, principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in Christian decent burial, and as touching such worldly estates wherewith it pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of in the following manner.
Secondly I will and bequeath unto my Grandson Thomas Caule my farm situate at Winsor lake together with my dwelling house and outhouses to have and to hold for ever providing he shall never sell it to any person or persons from one of his own family also he shall support me during my life time and give me a decent burial
Thirdly. I will and bequeath unto my wife Bridget that was one shilling sterling I also will and bequeath unto my daughters Mary Bridget Catherine and Elizabeth one shilling sterling each.
Signed Sealed published and declared by me in the presence of the undersigned witnesses the day and year above written. Signed Sealed published and declared by the said Thomas Kersey in our presence who in his presence and in the presence of each other and at his request hereunto subscribed our names the day and year first above written. Signed Sealed Thomas his x mark Kersey witnesses (sgd) John Gladney (sgd) James Gladney.
