Will of Catherine Kelly
from Newfoundland will books volume 6 pages 42-43 probate year 1893

Last Will and Testament of
Catherine Kelly of St. John's
Married Woman deceased.

      In the name of God Amen I the undersigned Catherine Kelly of St. John's being weak in bodily health but of sound and disposing mind: do hereby declare this to be my will and testament to wit: I leave to my husband John Kelly the house in which I am now living together with all furniture goods, chattels and appurtenances thereto belonging of which I may die possessed exclusive of all monies or Bank deposits or cash of any description. I leave to my Executor below mentioned the sum of Eighty dollars in trust for the construction & erection of a decent iron railing around the plot of land in Belvedere Cemetery where my mother is buried & where I also desire to be buried.

  • I bequeath to the orphanage of St. Michaels at Belvedere St. John's aforesaid the sum of four hundred ($400.00)
  • I bequeath to the Bishop of St. John's or his representative the sum of Two hundred dollars ($200.00) for masses for the repose of my soul & that of my late father John Hurley and my late mother Catherine Hurly providing that two high masses be celebrated one for my father & mother & one for myself.
  • I bequeath two hundred dollars for masses for the same intention to the Rt. Rev. Bishop Howley of St George's West Newfoundland or his successor.
  • I bequeath the residue of my money as contained in my Savings Bank account (the book of which is number 15776 and which I have given of my own free will to Rev. Edward Morris of Cochrane Street St. John's in charge to keep for me or my Executor) after my funeral expenses and all other lawful debts shall have been paid to the Right Revd. Bishop Howley aforesaid to be applied to religious purposes in his diocese as he may deem fit.

I hereby appoint the said Rt. Rev. Bishop Howley as my sole Executor Signed Sealed and delivered at St. John's this 7th day of September A.D. 1893 (Sgd) Catherine her X mark Kelly in presence of witnesses (sgd) Mrs Catherine Morris (sgd) W. H. Carty

      I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament of Catherine Kelly deceased
