Will of Alphonsus Keats
from Newfoundland will books volume 10 pages 570-571 probate year 1917

In re
      Alphonsus Keats deceased.

      This is the last will and Testament of me Alphonsus Keats J.P. Presque Nfld - I will, devise and Bequeath all my monies and property as follows, that is to say:- To my daughter Marie Alphonse Keats Three thousand dollars, to be invested, the interest to be used for her upkeep etc. at Littledale Academy, for sixteen years, then the principal to be given her for her sole use and benefit, in case of her death before the expiration of said term one third of the amount to be given the Catholic Orphanage, one third to the Christian Brothers, Mount Cashel Orphanage; one third to Rev. Leo Keats, Inverness, Cape Breton.

  • To my brother Alfred one hundred dollars.
  • To the Belvedere Orphanage fifty dollars.
  • To the Church of England Orphanage Thirty dollars.
  • To the Methodist Orphanage Thirty dollars,
  • To the Salvation Army Twenty dollars,
  • To my nephew Rev. Leo Keats one hundred dollars for Masses for benefit of myself and my wife Mary Keats.
  • To my nephew John Keats son of John M Keats late of Sydney Five shares in Terra Nova Dock Coy. Ltd. St. John’s for educational purposes.
  • To Rev. A. Tyme Fifty dollars.
  • To the poor of St. Kyran’s Parish for the residing clergyman. One hundred dollars
  • To the Archbishop Five hundred dollars to be invested, the yearly interest to be used for masses for myself and my wife Mary Keats, in perpetuity,
  • To each of my sisters Louise, Pauline, Teresa one hundred and fifty dollars.
  • To the Church at Argentia one hundred dollars

The residue of the estate to be deposited in the Nfld Savings Bank for the personal use of my daughter Marie Keats at the discretion of the executor And I hereby appoint Patrick J. Berrigan my Executor. Signed by the Testator in our presence who in his presence and the presence of each other at the same time affixed our names as witnesses at St. John’s Newfoundland this 15th day of May A.D. 1917. - Alphonsus Keats     Witness Patrick J.
