(from Newfoundland will books vol 11 page 108 probate year 1918)

In re James W Keating       deceased

This is the last will and Testament of me James W. Keating of Channel in the Southern District of Newfoundland Merchant. I give devise and bequeath all my real and personal estate of every description unto my wife Honora Keating absolutely. And I appoint my said wife sole executrix of this my will and revoke all previous wills by me at anytime heretofore made and declare this writing to be my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand this third day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eighteen. James W. Keating- signed by the said James W. Keating the Testator, in the presence of us who in his presence and the presence of each other, at the same time subscribed our names as witnesses. William Ryan Port-aux Basque W. T. Purer on S.S. "Kyle" Robert T. Squary(?) Channel N.F. Stipendiary Magistrate.

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.

We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be.
