Last will and Testament of
John Kavanagh of St. John’s
Merchant deceased

      In the name of God Amen I John Kavanagh of St. John’s Merchant being of sound and disposing mind do make and declare this to be my last will and Testament.
First I hereby ratify and confirm the deed of trust from me to John Harris of date December 10^th A.D. 1894 and registered in volume 10 of the Registry of Deeds of Newfoundland folios 333-335.
Secondly I will and direct that all my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses be paid
Thirdly. I give devise and bequeath my interest in the business of Hearn & Co to my wife and children in equal shares provided that the share of any child predeceasing me or dying without issue be equally divided amongst the survivors.
Fourthly. I give devise and bequeath to my wife Rosanna my life insurance policies in the Mutual life Insurance Company of New York consisting of two policies of $2000 each for her life and after her death the said policies or the proceeds thereof to be divided equally amongst my children.
Fifthly. I give devise and bequeath my joint interest in a piece of land situate at Brigus Junction to my children in equal shares. Sixthly. I will and direct that my Executors pay the sum of forty dollars to the Roman Catholic Church at St. John’s for Masses for the repose of my soul.
Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint the Honorable John Harris and my son Thomas Kavanagh to be Executors of this my last will and Testament. Dated at St. John’s this 2^nd day of April 1898.
