Last will and Testament of
John Kavanagh of St. John’s
Merchant deceased
In the name of God Amen I John
Kavanagh of St. John’s Merchant being of sound and disposing
mind do make and declare this to be my last will and Testament.
First
I hereby ratify and confirm the deed of trust from me to John
Harris of date December 10th A.D. 1894 and registered
in volume 10 of the Registry of Deeds of Newfoundland folios 333-335.
Secondly I will and direct that all my just debts and funeral and testamentary
expenses be paid
Thirdly. I give devise and bequeath my interest
in the business of Hearn & Co to my wife and children in
equal shares provided that the share of any child predeceasing me or
dying without issue be equally divided amongst the survivors.
Fourthly.
I give devise and bequeath to my wife Rosanna my life insurance policies
in the Mutual life Insurance Company of New York consisting
of two policies of $2000 each for her life and after her death the said
policies or the proceeds thereof to be divided equally amongst my children.
Fifthly. I give devise and bequeath my joint interest in a piece of land
situate at Brigus Junction to my children in equal shares. Sixthly. I
will and direct that my Executors pay the sum of forty dollars to the
Roman Catholic Church at St. John’s for Masses for the repose of
my soul.
Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint the Honorable John
Harris and my son Thomas Kavanagh to be Executors
of this my last will and Testament. Dated at St. John’s this 2nd day of April 1898. (Sgd) John

as and for his last will and testament by the said John Kavanagh in our
presence present at the same time who at his request and in his presence
and in the presence of each other have hereto subscribed our names as
