Last Will and Testament of
Bridget Kavanagh of St. John's
Spinster deceased.
In the name of God Amen. I Bridget
Kavanagh of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland Spinster Administratrix of Joseph
Kavanagh of same place cooper deceased do make and declare this as
and for my last will and Testament. I will and direct that whatever money and
property I may be possessed of at the time of my death shall be distributed
in the following manner.
First for the payment of my funeral expenses and the
erection of a square marble monument and iron railing around the burial place
of myself and family.
Second I will the sum of Fifty dollars for Masses for
the repose of my soul and of the souls of our family.
Third. I will
the sum of Five dollars for Masses for the repose of the soul of Walter
Cummins late of St. John's cooper deceased.
Fourth I will all the
rest residue and remainder after the payment of all my lawful debts to be equally
divided between the Roman Catholic Bishop of St. John's aforesaid for the use
of the Church, the Benevolent Irish Society St. John's the Convent of Mercy
Military Road St. John's, St. Michaels Orphanage Belvidere St. John's. the
St. Vincent de Paul Society St. John's and the Ladies Society of St. Vincent
de Paul St. John's -
Fifth I hereby revoke all other wills by me made and nominate
and appoint James D. Ryan of St. John's aforesaid Grocer Executor
of this my last will and Testament.
Dated at St. John's this nineteenth day
of June A.D. one thousand eight hundred and ninety six. (Sgd) Bridget
her x mark Kavanagh. Signed and declared by the said Testatrix in our presence who
in the presence of each other and of the said Testatrix subscribed our names
as witnesses having been first read over and explained. (Sgd) James

I make the following addition to my last
will Dated June nineteenth A.D. 1896.
- I will and bequeath
to Mary Hanly at present living with me Thirty dollars.
- To
Patrick Murphy formerly in Grieves Store Ten dollars.
- To
William Aspell Ten dollars.
- To Anne Murphy wife of late
Luke Murphy Twenty dollars
- To Margaret Quigley eight dollars
also my best mantle and new dress
- To Jane wife of William
Pumphry I will one chiffonier, one rocking chair and one small table.
- To
Johanna wife of James Reid I will one couch and two cushions.
- To
Catherine Scanlan in whose house I at present reside I will all the remainder
of my furniture.
Dated at St. John's this Thirtieth day
of July A.D. one thousand eight hundred and ninety six. (Sgd) Bridget
her x mark Kavanagh. Signed and declared by the said Testatrix in our presence who
in the presence of each other and of the said Testatrix subscribed our names
as witnesses, having been first read over and explained. (Sgd) James
