A Collection of Newfoundland Wills
(J)
William Johnson Senr

Will of William Johnson Senior
from Newfoundland will books volume 1 pages 99 & 100 probate year 1830.

In the Estate of
     William Johnson Senr       deceased.

In the Name of God. Amen. I William Johnson of Renews in the Island of Newfoundland, being of sound mind, but ignorant how long the blessing of health may be indulged me, do make this my last will & testament in manner & form following.
First, I do desire that all my debts at the time of my decease may be duly discharged.
Next, I bequeath the remainder of my property, of every description, to my wife, Anne Johnson, to have & to hold for her life, for her use & benefit.
And my will further is, that, at her decease, such property be equally divided between my two children Mary Evans & William Johnson with permission to them to appropriate it in whatever way they may deem most advantageous for their respective families.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand, this 14th day of June 1829. William Johnson.
Signed in the presence of P. Pering, Minister of Ferryland.   John Row.

Certified Correct,
D. M. Browning
Registrar

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.

We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be.
