Will of Elizabeth Jack
from Newfoundland will books volume 13 pages 216-218 probate year 1925

In re
      ELIZABETH JACK.     DECEASED.

This is the last will of me, Elizabeth Jack of St John’s Newfoundland Widow, and I revoke all former wills by me made. I appoint James J. McGrath and T. Scanlon McGrath both of St John’s aforesaid barristers-at-law executors of my will.

  1. I give to my niece Mrs May Riley (nee Flaherty) at present of New York, United States of America, the sum of Four thousand dollars ($4000.00)

  2. I give to my second cousin Mrs Minnie Murphy at present of Cork, Ireland
    (a) the sum of four thousand dollars ($4000.00)
    (b) my silver spoons.

  3. I give to Miss Margaret Jack of Edinburgh Scotland my late husband’s sister the sum of one thousand dollars ($1000.00)

  4. I give to Joseph G. Keiley of St John’s aforesaid postal Clerk all my household furniture and domestic effects (except my silverware) contained in the dwelling in which I now live and which dwelling and leasehold land therewith I transferred to him for my board and lodging during my life

  5. I hereby confirm the said transfer to the said Joseph G Keiley and authorize my executors to do everything necessary to secure to him all my right title and interest in the said dwelling and the said leasehold if it be found necessary at my death.

  6. I give to Elizabeth Elliott who at one time lived with me as a servant
    (a) all my clothing and
    (b) the sum of two hundred dollars ($200.00)

  7. I give to the Belvidere Cemetery Committee for the fixing up and yearly upkeep of the family (Reardon) burial plot at Belvidere the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00)

  8. Any amount that may be due to me at the time of my death and afterwards under the undertaking by the Roman catholic Episcopal Corporation of St. John’s dated the 8th day of May 1922 I desire that the said Corporation may apply it for Masses for the repose of the souls of my parents of my late brother Right Reverend Monsignor Reardon and of myself.

  9. I wish it to be understood that my executors are not to give their services professional or otherwise in the management of my estate without compensation

  10. The residue of my estate (if any) I give to my executors in trust to be applied as I may in writing or verbally instruct them

  11. Should my estate at my death be not sufficient to pay my debts funeral and testamentary expenses death duties or other taxes & also comply with the foregoing provisions of this my will, then my executors shall deduct an equal amount from the bequests to Mrs May Riley and Minnie Murphy to make up the deficiency and the payment of the lesser sums to them shall be a compliance with the said bequests to them.

      In witness whereof I have set my hand to this my will at St John’s aforesaid this 11th day of November 1922

      This is a codicil to my last will dated the 11th of November 1922

  1. It is my desire that no deduction as provided by paragraph 11 of my said will be made in the bequest to Mrs Minnie Murphy but that she receive the full sum of $4000.00. The silver spoons have been sent her.

  2. In paragraph 4 of my said will there is no occasion for my exception of silverware and said paragraph shall be read without the words “except my silverware”

  3. By paragraph 6 of my said will I gave all my clothing to Elizabeth Elliott but I desire to now withdraw that bequest but confirm the bequest (b) of $200.00 The said clothing and all my ornaments and articles of dress I bequesath to Minnie Keiley wife of Joseph Keiley

  4. The residue of my estate shall go to the Belvidere Orphanage St John’s but subject first to two payments thereout of one hundred dollars each to the said Minnie Keiley and her daughter Josephine Keiley But if the said residue does not total three (3) hundred dollars then the said residue (if any) shall be divided in three equal parts one part going to said Orphanage one part to Minnie Keiley and one part to Josephine Keiley.

      In witness whereof I have set my hand to this Codicil to my last will this 27th day of July 1925
