Last Will and Testament of
Catherine Hynes of St. Brendan's
Bonavista Bay deceased.
In the name of God Amen I Catherine
Hynes of
St. John's Newfoundland Domestic Servant do make this my last will and Testament. Firstly
after the payment of all my just testamentary and funeral expenses are paid
I give devise and bequeath fourteen dollars to Mrs. Ready wife of Nicholas
Ready of St. John's aforesaid for her own use and benefit. Secondly
I give devise and bequeath unto Annie Maher daughter of William and
Clara Maher of St. John's aforesaid the sum of ten dollars for her own use and benefit. Thirdly
I give devise and bequeath unto Madonna Lamb daughter of Patrick and
Josie Lamb of Red Island Placentia Bay the sum of ten dollars for her own use and
benefit. Fourthly I give devise and bequeath unto my niece Johannah
Hynes daughter of Patrick and Mary Hynes of St. Brendens Bonavista Bay the
sum of Twelve dollars - Fifthly I give devise and bequeath unto the
Reverend Father Battcock of St. Brendans Roman Catholic Priest, the sum of
Ten dollars for masses for my soul. Sixthly I give devise and bequeath
unto Maria Rose at present of St. John's and living with her brother Edward
Rose, my silver watch for her sole use and benefit. Seventhly I direct
that out of whatever monies my executor may have in his possession belonging
to me, after the payment of all the expenses hereinbefore provided for and
after the above legacies are paid, that a suitable head stone be placed over
my grave and then, if after payment for the said headstone and incidental expenses,
any amount remain in my said executors possession I direct that it be paid
to my brother Patrick Hynes of St. Brendans Bonavista Bay for his sole use
and benefit. Eighthly I appoint Catherine Rogers at present of St.
John's aforesaid ladysmaid at Government House my sole executrix of this my
last will and Testament. I hereby revoke all other testamentary dispositions
made by me. In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my hand at St. John's
aforesaid this twenty fourth day of November A.D. 1899 (sgd) Catherine
Hynes Signed by the said Testatrix in our presence who in her presence, at her request
and in the presence of each other have hereunto signed our names as witnesses.
