Last will and testament of
Robert Hunt of St. John's, Gentleman deceased
.

This is the last will and testament of me Robert Hunt of St. John's Newfoundland Gentleman.
First I desire that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses shall be first paid out of my estate by my executors hereinafter appointed.
Second. I hereby nominate and appoint James G. Martin of St. John's Gentleman, James H. Coulter of the same place Cooper and George Quilton Hunt of Burgeo Doctor of Medicine and William Martin of St. John's Merchant and the survivors and the survivor of them executors of this my will.
Third. I give and bequeath to my wife Elizabeth Brine and I hereby will and direct that my said executors shall pay to her out of my estate for and during her natural life the yearly sum of four hundred and eighty dollars in equal half yearly payments.
Fourth. I will and direct that my said executors shall out of my estate pay the following annuities that is to say to my nephew George Quilton Hunt and his wife and the survivor of them the yearly sum of one hundred and twenty dollars for and during their natural lives and the natural life of the survivor of them, to my nephew James Hunt Cousins and his wife and the survivor of them the yearly sum of one hundred and twenty dollars for and during their natural lives and the natural life of the survivor of them, to my nephew Sampson Dawe Senior the yearly sum of ninety six dollars for and during his natural life and to my niece Mary Ann Wade the yearly sum of ninety six dollars for and during her natural life.
Fifth. Upon the death of my said wife I will and direct that my said executors shall out of my estate pay the following annuities to the persons hereinafter named for and during the natural lives of the said persons respectively to Robert Hunt Dawe of ????? yearly sum of ???? to ??? the yearly sum of forty ???? to ??? Cathy ? Dawe of Davenport the yearly sum of forty dollars, to Sampson Dawe of St. Louis in the United States of America the yearly sum of forty eight dollars., to James Frank Martin of St. John's the yearly sum of eighty dollars to Elizabeth Mary Martin of St. John's the yearly sum of one hundred dollars and to Jane Pippy of St. John's the yearly sum of forty dollars.
Sixth. Upon the death of my said wife I also will and direct that my said executors shall pay to James P. O'Donnell of St. John's the sum of thirty dollars, to John O'Donnell of St. John's the sum of thirty dollars, to Jane Jeffreys of Bay St. George the sum of thirty dollars and to Mary F. Ellis the sum of thirty dollars.
Seventh. Upon the death of Sampson Dawe Senior I will and direct that my said executors shall out of my estate pay to Martha Elizabeth Dawe the yearly sum of ninety six dollars for and during her natural life.
Eight. Upon the death of the said James Hunt Cousens and his wife I will and direct that my said executors shall pay to their son Robert Cousens the yearly sum of forty dollars for and during his natural life and to their daughter Lucy Jane Cousens the yearly sum of forty dollars for and during her natural life.
Ninth. Upon the death of the said George Quilton Hunt and his wife I will and direct that my said executors shall pay to Sampson Hunt Dawe the yearly sum of forty dollars for and during his natural life.
Tenth. I will and direct that my said executors shall out of my estate provide for my servant Joseph Abbott one suit of clothes yearly for and during his natural life at cost of not more than twelve dollars and fifty cents per annum.
Eleventh. In case the yearly rents profits and income of my estate shall not be sufficient to pay the annuities or yearly sums hereinbefore provided for it is my wish and desire and I hereby will and direct that the said annuities shall ???? but the annuity to my wife willed must always be paid in full.
Twelfth. All the rest residue and remainder of my property and effects of every description not hereinbefore bequeathed or disposed of I hereby give devise and bequeath to the said William Martin forever.
Thirteenth. I will bequeath all my furniture to my wife for ever.
Witness my hand at St. John's this twenty second day of January Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and eighty nine. (Sgd) Robert Hunt. Signed published and declared by the said testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and the presence of each other all present at the same time have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses. Codicil
By this codicil to my last will and testament within written I revoke and annul the tenth clause, containing a bequest to Joseph Abbott, completely. (Sgd) Robert Hunt. Signed published and declared by the said Robert Hunt as and for a codicil to his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses this 28th day of September A.D. 1889. I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and testament and codicil of Robert Hunt deceased.
