Last will and testament of
John Howley of St. John's
Gentleman deceased

Last will and testament of the undersigned John J. Howley of Torbay Road St. John's Newfoundland. In the name of God Amen. I John J. Howley being of sound mind will and desire that in the event of my death my worldly goods and possessions shall be disposed of as hereinafter particularized. In the first place I give and bequeath to my brother James P. Howley my farm property with all the buildings thereon, which was conveyed to me by deed by my father prior to his decease, and which is known as "Mount Cashel" and is situated on the Torbay Road: and I will and desire that the property so specified shall become the property of William R. A. Howley the oldest son of the said James P. Howley should the said William R. A. Howley survive the said James P. Howley. I also give and bequeath to my brother James P. Howley all the animals, farming stock implements, carriages, harness, and all the household furniture books sporting appliances which at the time of my death as I may hereafter ???? and hereby dispose of my remaining property ???? the date of making this testament ???? two hundred dollars in the form of government debentures of the Island of Newfoundland and any money there may be at my credit in the Union Bank of Newfoundland in the following manner.
To my sister Annie Howley for her support during her lifetime so much in amount of the said debentures as will yield her two hundred dollars per annum. The interest only to be used by her for that purpose. And I further will and desire that upon the death of the said Annie Howley these debentures so bequeathed to her shall become the property of my nephew William R. A. Howley son of James P. Howley hereinbefore referred to. The residue of my debenture property and any other money I may own at the time of my death. I will and desire shall after paying my funeral expenses, my lawful debts, and the hereinafter specified bequests become the property of my brother James P. Howley. Four hundred dollars to go to my brother the very Revd Michael Howley for his personal use. Four hundred dollars to my brother Rev. Richard Howley. One hundred dollars to the Men's St. Vincent de Paul Society for the poor, one hundred dollars to the Women's Branch St. Vincent de Paul Society for the poor. One hundred dollars for masses for the repose of my soul. Forty dollars to the Night school for poor boys. Two hundred dollars to my housekeeper Anne Kelly should she be in my service at the time of my death. I appoint my brothers William Howley and James P. Howley executors of this will and testament which is made by me this third day of January A.D. 1890. (Sgd) John J. Howley Torbay Road Saint John's N.F. January 3rd 1890

By this codicil made and ??? this twenty sixth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety one: I revoke and cancel bequest of four hundred dollars made to my brother Richard Howley in the foregoing will; and herein bequeath the said amount of four hundred dollars to my brother Very Rev. Michael Howley for his personal use in addition to the bequest already made him and I further will and direct that two hundred dollars be given to my faithful housekeeper and servant Anne Kelly in addition to the two hundred dollars already bequeathed to her. (Sgd) John J. Howley Oct 26 1891. -
Codicil Number two to be added to my last will and testament. I give and bequeath to my sister Catherine Morris four hundred dollars also the silver spoons and the two large base lamps in the drawing room: and to her daughter Annie Morris the binocular glass and views I bought in Paris. To my brother William I give and bequeath the gold watch and rosewood desk which belonged to my father; also any books and any dozen articles of household furniture he may select. With regard to the dwelling house and grounds bequeathed to my brother James P. Howley he is to be at liberty to lease or sell them if necessary or required but if in his possession at the time of his death they are to go as provided to his son William R. A. Howley. Made on Monday the first day of February one thousand eight hundred and ninety two. (Sgd) John J. Howley

I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and testament and two codicils of John J. Howley deceased.
