Will of Thomas Horwood
from the Newfoundland will books volume 12 page 127 probate year 1921

In re THOMAS HORWOOD.      DECEASED.

This is the last Will, and Testament, of me Thomas Horwood, of Harbour Le Cou. Newfoundland. I hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

  • Item. I devise and bequeath to my wife, Abigail Horwood All my Life Insurance. Also the house by me owned in Harbour Le Cou with the furnishings thereof. Also all monies in the house at the time of my decease.
  • Item. I devise, and bequeath to my adopted son Henry Taylor, the Sum of Two Thousand Dollars.
  • Item. I devise, and bequeath to William H. Moulton. Senior, the sum of One Thousand Dollars.
  • Item. I devise and bequeath to my sister, Mary Ann Horwood, the sum of Two Thousand Dollars.
  • Item. I further desire that after the disposal of my estate, and the payment of all debts against the same. That the residue shall be divided in equal shares between my wife, my brothers, and sisters. To Wit. Abigail Horwood, William Horwood, James Horwood. John Robert Horwood, George Horwood, Mary Ann Horwood, Anna Jane Moulton, Laura Lamoine, Hilda Jeffers.
  • I hereby appoint William Horwood and James Horwood, joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament.

In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th day of October A.D. 1920. THOMAS HORWOOD.
Signed. Sealed. Published, and Declared, by the above named Thomas Horwood, Testator. As and for his last Will, and Testament. In the presence of us both present at the same time. Who at his request, and in his presence, have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses. W.E. Earle.    C.J. Coyt.

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.

We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be.
