Last will and testament of
John Higgins of St. John's
Clerk in General Post office deceased
.

This is the last will and testament of me John Higgins clerk in the St. John's General post office. First I will that all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses shall be paid out of my estate by my executor. Second. I will and bequeath the two houses numbered "48" and "50" Colonial Street St. John's together with a Life Insurance policy in the Canada Life Assurance Company to my wife Hannah Higgins nee O'Grady my executor to pay out of the said policy the sum of twenty dollars for masses for my soul and for father and mothers souls, the said amount to be distributed as my wife shall direct. Thirdly I will that in the event of the death of my wife and my two children the latter two without issue that all my landed property shall go in equal parts to Wm. Higgins son of my brother James the house number "50' and to John and Lewis Barry sons of my sister Mrs. Barry the house numbered "48" and in the case of the death of my nephew Wm Higgins without issue then his share shall go to John and Lewis Barry and in the case of the death of both John and Lewis Barry then their share shall go to Wm if he should them survive and they die without issue, and in the case of the death of either of John or Lewis Barry without issue then the share shall go to the surviving brother. I further bequeath and will all my household furniture property or otherwise to my wife. I appoint Bryan Mitchell of St. John's Water St. Provision dealer to be executor of this my last will and testament. (Sgd) J. Higgins. Signed published and declared by the said testator to and for his last will and testament on the 16th day of April A.D. 1892 in our presence who in his presence and in presence of each other have hereto subscribed their hands as witnesses thereto (sgd) J. O'Flaherty (sgd) T. J. Murphy
