Last Will and Testament of
William Hennessy of Harbor Grace
Master Mariner deceased.
In the name of God Amen. This is
the last will and Testament of William Hennessy of Harbor Grace in the Island
of Newfoundland Planter - (1) I hereby appoint Michael O'Brien of
Harbor Grace aforesaid accountant my sole executor (2) I give and
bequeath to my wife Mary and to my sons William & John as copartners all
my property and premises situate at East Turmivick Labrador and consisting
of one dwelling house one bunk house two salt stores one shop one twine loft
and cooperage with a garden attached lately occupied by me one dwelling house
one bunk house one salt store one twine loft one stage and a garden attached
lately occupied by my son William, one dwelling and stage and barn lately occupied
by Eli Evans, one dwelling house one bunk house salt house one stage and barn
lately occupied by James Moore; one dwelling and stage with barn lately occupied
by Michael Cody, one dwelling house bunk house, stage, with barn lately occupied
by Thomas Swalcombe with all the fishing material thereon and appertaining
thereto except the list of articles as per inventory hereunto annexed marked
"A" which I give and bequeath to my wife Mary solely & entirely. (3)
I give and bequeath to my son Thomas one fishing room situate on the south
point of the harbor of East Turmivick consisting of one dwelling one stage
and barn and all fishing material namely one jack and one tugboat and one dory
and all other fishing material on the said room.
(4th) I give and
bequeath to my son Thomas one of the three codtraps which I possess with moorings
and grapnels for the said trap
(5th) I give and bequeath to my wife
Mary and William and John Hennessy my sons two codtraps with moorings etc belonging
to said traps, and also all the boats of every description at Turmivick except
the two above mentioned
(6th) I give and bequeath to my wife Mary & my
sons William and John the Schooner "Carolina" now lying at Harbor Grace with
sails anchors gear and all appurtenances thereto.
7th I give and
bequeath to my wife Mary all that piece or parcel of land known as Connell's
Estate situate at Harbor Grace bounded by Lady Pond Road on the north, on the
east by the estate now occupied by my son William on the south by the Track
Road and on the west by Hunt's Estates also that piece or parcel of land known
as Burgeo's Estate situate at Harbor Grace and bounded on the north by Rogerson's
Road, on the west by Morrissey's land on the east by land occupied by my son
William and on the south by Lady Pond Road together with one barn on Connell's
land.
8th I give and bequeath to my wife Mary and to my son William conjointly that piece or parcel of land known as the "Ren" on the rear of the
land occupied by my son William and after the death of my wife Mary to be the
sole property of my said son William.
9th I give and bequeath to
my son John all my nautical books instruments and charts, patent log barometer
timepiece and medicine chest to be reserved for ship's use.
(10th)
I give and bequeath to my son Henry my watch and chain.
(11th) I
give and bequeath to my wife Mary all my books debts to be
collected by the executor. Signed sealed & delivered this 2nd day of January

I William Hennessy declare
null and void the legacy mentioned in paragraph 2, leaving one dwelling house
one bunk house salt house one stage and barn lately occupied by James
Moore to my wife Mary & my
sons William and John as copartners. I give
and bequeath the said room and whatever fishing material may be thereon to William
Pumphrey my Grandson, together
with two suitable boats. Paragraph 10 is hereby declared null and void. I give
and bequeath to my son Ronald my watch and chain. Signed Sealed & delivered
at Harbor Grace this 2nd day of January A.D. 1901 (sgd) Wm
