Will of William J. Harris
from Newfoundland will books volume 14 pages 59-60 probate year 1927

In re
     WILLIAM J. HARRIS.     DECEASED.

THIS is the last Will and Testament of me William J. Harris of Saint John's Builder and Contractor.

  1. I appoint my brother Thomas Harris of Saint John's merchant and my wife Agnes Harris executors of this my will.
  2. I direct my executors to apply out of the income of my estate the sum of Five hundred dollars per year for the support and maintenance of my son Eric during his life.
  3. I direct my executors to pay to my daughter Eva out of the income of my estate the sum of five hundred dollars per year while she shall remain unmarried and while my wife shall live.
  4. The balance of the income of my estate shall be paid to my said wife during her life for her own use.
  5. On the death of my said son Eric the income payable to him shall be paid to my said wife, if she shall survive him, for her life.
  6. On the death or marriage of my said daughter Eva the income payable to her shall be paid to my said wife during her life if she shall be living on the death or marriage of my said daughter.
  7. On the death of my said wife I direct that the capital of my estate then remaining (except so much as shall be sufficient to provide the said annuity for my said son Eric if he shall then be living) shall be divided equally amongst such of my children, except my son Eric but including my said daughter Eva as shall then be living.
  8. On the death of both my said wife and my said son Eric the capital from which the said annuity for his use is derived shall be divided equally amongst such of my children including my said daughter Eva as shall then be living.
  9. I give to my executors the following powers viz: To continue any investments which I may have at my death: To invest any portion of my estate upon the security of mortgages upon landed property in or near Saint John's: And to expend any portion of the capital of my estate which they may deem necessary for the proper care and support of my said wife and my said son Eric and while she shall remain unmarried of my said daughter Eva if the income shall be found insufficient for these purposes.

Witness my hand at Saint John's aforesaid this 6th day of May Anno Domini One thousand nine hundred and twenty five.

Signed Published and declared by the said Testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other (all present at the same time) have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.
