Will of John W. Harris
from Newfoundland will books volume 8 pages 504 to 506 probate year 1908

In re
      John W. Harris          deceased.

      In the name of God Amen The 29th day of April one thousand nine hundred and five. I, John W Harris of Seal Cove Newfoundland, Fisherman being sick and weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind the mortality of the body knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament; that is to say, principally and first of all. I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth, to be buried in decent Christian burial, at the discretion of my executors; nothing doubting, but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the almighty power of God. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give, demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form:-
First. I give and bequeath to my Grandson Archibald Harris the Garden at the upper end of the Large meadow as now staked off bounded by the public road near Thomas Leawood’s to be his and heirs forever. All the remainder of the property owned by me including all Lands cleared and uncleared, my part of the Fishing Room. The Dwelling House now occupied by me together with Beds and bedding furniture Stores and Cooking utensils, also all out-Houses stables    Cellar together with all tools Horse and all other animals that I now own, also the carts to be equally divided between my two sons John M Harris and Moses B. Harris and their Heirs, after the decease of either of my two sons John and Moses should they leave a widow she is to live on the property and have the use of her husbands part of the property until she again marries when she forfeits all claim to the Lands and property. I also give and bequeath to my son John M Harris one quadrant and one Epitome, and to my son Moses B Harris I give and bequeath the Book entitled “Blunts American Coast Pilot” and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments wills, Legacies, bequests, and executors by me in any ways beforenamed willed, and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other, to be my last will and testament     In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written (sgd) John W. Harris his X mark     Signed, Sealed published pronounced and declared by the said John W Harris as his last will and testament in the presence of us the subscribers (sgd) Wm. H. Butten (sgd) Thomas Leawood (sgd) James W Janes
