from Newfoundland will books volume 11 page 582 probate year 1921

In re Robert Hannaford       deceased

This is the last will and testament of me, Robert Hannaford of St. John's, Cabman. After my just and lawful debts are paid, I will & bequeath the sum of four hundred dollars to my stepson James Birmingham of Petty Harbor. The rest of my estate I leave to my daughter, Margaret Glasco for her sole use & benefit. I appoint her executrix of this my will. Robert his X mark Hannaford
Signed on this the 16th day of September 1920 by the testator by affixing his mark in presence of us who, it having been first read over & explained to him in his presence & in presence of each other hereunto subscribe our names as witnesses: - P.J. Kane     T.P. Halley

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.

We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be.
