Last will and testament
of Hugh Hamlin
of St. John's Farmer Deceased
.

This is the last will and testament of me Hugh Hamlin of St. John's in the island of Newfoundland Yeoman. First I hereby revoke all former wills and codicils every by me made and I appoint Matthew W. Walbank of St. John's aforesaid Barrister to be the executor of this my last will and testament. I give devise and bequeath to my son William the dwelling house I now reside in also the workshop and garden occupied by him and the garden at present occupied by myself to hold the same for his own use forever. I also give unto my said son William all my interest in the rents arising out of the estate of my son George (now deceased) during his natural life and after his death it is my will that the property of the said estate be equally divided among my three grandchildren hereafter named share and share alike. All the rest residue and remainder of my lands monies estate and effects I give and bequeath unto my said executor to hold the same upon the following trust viz upon trust to pay the rents issues and profits thereof unto my daughter in law Eliza Hamlin yearly and every year during her natural life and after her decease then upon trust to hold the same for the use and behoof of my grandchildren William Frederick Hamlin and Richard James Hamlin or the survivors of them share and share alike and I will and desire that none of my landed estate shall be sold mortgaged or in anywise encumbered subject always to an annuity of four pounds currency which I desire shall be paid to my sister Martha Hamlin during her natural life from and after the year 1867. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 23rd day of January A.D. 1863. Hugh Hamlin (L.S.) Signed sealed published and declared in presence of us the words commencing with "subject" and ending with the figures "1867" having been first interlined. James H. Cousins William Smith.
I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and testament of Hugh Hamlin.
