Will of Jane Lucy Haly

Last Will and Testament of
Jane Lucy Haly of Brighton in Sussex
England Spinster deceased.

      The will and Testament of me Jane Lucy Haly of Brighton Spinster made this seventh day of November one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight. I appoint my niece Anastasia Bella Ann Haly Smith and my friend James Payne executrix and executor of my will and I bequeath to the said Walter James Payne as such executor Twenty pounds free of legacy duty. I devise and bequeath all my property in St. John's Newfoundland whether real or personal and for whatsoever interest I may have therein to my nephew Henry O'Grady Haly Hutton. But if my nephew shall die in my lifetime I devise such property for all my interest therein aforesaid to my nephew William Standish Haly Hutton. I bequeath the pecuniary legacies following free of legacy duty: To my sister Anastasia Emma Hutton one hundred pounds: to my niece and God-daughter Rosa Jane Haly one hundred pounds and my Indian Elkhorn work box: to my great niece and God-daughter Violet Emma Hamilton Hutton fifty pounds and my Bombay knitting box: and to my said nephew Henry O'Grady Haly Hutton six hundred and fifty pounds. But if he shall die in my lifetime I bequeath such last mentioned legacy to my said nephew William Standish Haly Hutton. I devise and bequeath the rest of my estate to my said niece Anastasia Bella Ann Haly Smith absolutely and I revoke all former testamentary instruments. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand on the day and year first above written. (Sgd) Jane L. Haly. Signed by the Testatrix in our presence and by us in her presence the word "two" in the sixteenth line having been previously altered to "one" (sgd) Charles A. Doolley Solr. Brighton
