Will of William Hackett
from Newfoundland will books volume 6 pages 133-134 probate year 1894

Last Will and Testament of
William Hackett of St. John's
Master Mariner deceased.

      This is the last will and Testament of me William Hackett of St. John's Master Mariner.
1 I desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid by my executors hereinafter named.
2. To my beloved wife I give and devise that piece or parcel of land with the two new dwelling houses thereon situate on Gower Street: the houses are at present occupied by myself and my son in law Thomas J. Greene to hold the same during her life time and after her decease the said land and houses are to go as follows: - The house in which I now reside I devise and bequeath to my daughter Mary Ellen Hackett together with the land on which said house is built the house occupied by the said Thomas J. Greene together with the land on which said house is built I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Catherine wife of said Thomas J. Greene. In the event of the death of my said daughter Catherine before my said wife then the said house and land is to go to the children of my said daughter Catherine
3. All the rest and residue of my property including Union Bank shares government debentures and money I give devise and bequeath to my said wife for her own use and benefit during her lifetime, and should there be any remaining at the time of her death the same is to be equally divided between my five children viz Catherine wife of said Thomas J. Greene, Mary Ellen William, Joseph and John. Should any of my said children die before my said wife leaving lawful issue the child or children to take the place of my said child.
4. I hereby revoke all former wills by me at any time made.
5. I appoint my wife Bridget and Michael H. Carty of St. John's solicitor to be executors of this my will.
St. John's April 3rd A.D. 1894. (Sgd) William Hackett Signed by the said Testator as and for his last will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereto subscribed our names as witnesses. (Sgd) Ellen Hackett. (Sgd) M. H. Carty.

      I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament of William Hackett deceased
