Will of Robert Grant In re In the name of God Amen, I Robert Grant of Trinity Carpenter being aged and infirm but of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other will or testament made or pretended to be made by me, First I give and bequeath to my daughter Mahalla and George my son my dwelling house that I now live in- my son George is to have the north end together with all the furniture and bedding and bed therein and the south end to my daughter Mahalla with bed and bedding and all the furniture therein- the poarch on the back is to be parted off and each to have their respective shares- and I give and bequeath all the ground on the side of the hill that is the part that is broke up or under cultivation to my son George and my daughter Mahalla - And should anything happen to George or Mahalla before my son George is of age or to Mahalla before my death I will and bequeath all the before mentioned bequest to my son David who undertakes to take care of George until he is able to do for himself I will and bequeath all my carpenter’s tools to my son George if he is able to use them and also all the board or lumber of any description that may be left at my death- I will and bequeath to my son David and my son George my workshop and all the ground attached provided they- pay whatever may be owing from me at the time of my death, and to receive all that may be due to me- I will and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Barber a suit of mourning I will and bequeath whatever interest I may have in right of my late wife Honor Courtis formerly Honor Bayly in the estate of the late David Bayly to all my children including Harriot Courtis share and share alike I do hereby appoint my sons David and George to be executors to this my last will and testament with a request that they will not sell or mortgage the property. Robt. Grant. Signed, sealed and published and declared by the said Robt Grant in Trinity this 12th day of Nov. A.D. 1858 in presence of John his X mark Newhook, B. Sweetland. Certified correct,

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are either hand-written copies or in later years typed copies of a, "last will and testament," written or typed by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor. We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be. |
