Will of Philip Grandy
from Newfoundland will books volume 7 pages 32-33 probate year 1901

Last Will and Testament of
Philip Grandy of Belleoram
Merchant deceased.

      In the name of God Amen.
I Philip Grandy being sound in mind and with all my faculties intact and whole for which I thank God do hereby make this my last will and Testament in manner and form following -
1st. To my beloved wife Agnes Grandy I give and bequeath the dwelling house and ground surrounding it also the meadow situated in the middle of the Harbour, and two other portions of land in other parts of the Harbour -
2nd To my nephew Ernest John Burdock the property known as the old school property, with my third of the waterside property viz wharf store etc -
3rd To my beloved wife Agnes Grandy I leave in trust for Onslow Browne till he comes of age my shop, stores, flake and half of herring seine, the whole of the caplin seine - schooner "Caroline" with the option of selling the said schooner "Caroline" should my wife Agnes Grandy feel so disposed.
4th Of the money which now lies in the Bank of Montreal to my credit, l leave to my niece Agnes Burdock one hundred dollars.
5th To the new Church at Belleoram now in course of erection, I leave twenty five dollars for refurnishing
6th The proceeds of the Life Policy which I now hold in the New York Mutual I leave to my beloved wife Agnes Grandy without any conditions whatever
7th The balance of money that may be lying in the Bank of Montreal at my decease I wish to be invested by my executors to the best advantage for the benefit of my beloved wife Agnes Grandy and Onslow Browne - The principal not to be touched without the consent of the executors - They may only draw the interest It is also my wish that at my beloved wife's decease all the share of property and money held by my wife, shall revert to Onslow Browne. Except any money my wife may hold or possess from the proceeds on my Life Insurance, which shall be at her own disposal.
8th. Of the Five hundred dollars ($500.00) due me by my nephew Earnest John Burdock for which he pays me at the rate of 5% interest per annum - the interest to be continued and paid to my wife Agnes Grandy until such times as he can pay the principal Of the principal I wish him to retain $100.00 paying back to my wife $400.00.
I appoint Mr. George Chant and Mr. Arthur Cunningham executors to this my last will and Testament, and that they shall not be required to give any security for the performance of their duties.
In witness whereof I Philip Grandy have hereunto set my hand and seal on this Fifteenth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety nine. (Sgd) Philip Grandy (LS) subscribed by the Testator in the presence of each of us and at the same time declared by him to us as his last will and Testament, the 15th day of December 1899. Codicil

      Interest to be paid on $400.00 instead of $500.00
Of that meadow in the middle of the Harbour I wish to leave to my niece Mrs. Agnes Burdock a piece measuring on the Road frontage, that is from north to south 45 feet and measuring back from the Road east and west 30 feet, that is 30 feet from my boundary fence. I also wish that in case of her death that it become the property of her children if she has any living. If she has no children, the ground be left at the disposal of my niece Mrs. Agnes Burdock (sgd) Philip Grandy - witnesses (sgd) W. A. Haynes. (Sgd) Levi A. McCluish Belleoram Augst 30th 1900

      I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament and Codicil of Philip Grandy of deceased
