Last will and Testament

I John Grandy Senr, being in my right mind, and having all my faculties about me for which I thank God. Do hereby give and bequeath to my wife Sarah what money I have in the Savings Bank amounting in all to four hundred and thirty nine dollars and twenty two cents. It is my wish that at her death what is left be divided into seven equal parts, one part to each of my six children, and one part to my grandchild Rebecca daughter of my deceased daughter Christianna.

I also bequeath to my son Philip the meadow adjoining the property of Mr. John Cluett Senr.

Also my share in the schooner "Leader" I divide equally between my sons John & Philip.

It is my wish that the land belonging to me in the Back Cove, be divided equally between my two sons John & Thomas and my three daughters, Bathia Hannah & Matilda also that the store houses be used by my three sons as heretofore.

My silver spoons, of which I have six, I leave to my dear wife Sarah, at her death they are to be divided, one to each of my six children
My gun I bequeath to my grandson John Grandy Junr.

In witness whereof I now sign my hand this 6th day of December, in the year of our Lord 1883. John x Grandy Senr. His mark. Witnesses W. A. Haynes S. P. G. Missionary, William x Alute his mark Levi S. Cluett. Supreme Court Saint Jacques S.S. William H. Haynes of Belleoram clerk in Holy orders maketh oath and saith, that the signed on the day of the date thereof and did see John Grandy Senior of Belleoram Planter the Testator in the annexed will named duly sign seal, publish and declare the foregoing paper writing as and for his last will and Testament. That the said Testator so signed the said will by making his mark thereto. That the said testator so signed published and declared the said annexed paper waiting as and for his last will and testament in the presence as well of this deponent as of Levi T. Cluett and William Cluett the other subscribing witnesses to the same, and this deponent further saith that immediately after the said testator had so signed his said last will as aforesaid this deponent and the said Levi J. Cluett and William Cluett, then and there in the presence as well of this deponent as of the said testator and of each other duly signed their names to the said will (the said William Cluett so signing by making his mark thereto as witnesses to the due execution of the same and this deponent further saith, that the said will was duly read over and explained to the said testator immediately before he had so signed the same as aforesaid, and that such reading over and explanation was duly performed in the presence of this deponent, and the other subscribing witnesses to the same. And this deponent lastly said that the said John Grandy Senr the said Testator, at the time of so signing and publishing his said last will and testament as aforesaid, was of sound mind, memory and understanding to the best of this deponents judgment, knowledge and belief. W. A. Haynes Clerk in Holy orders Sworn before me at Belleoram this ???? of January A.D. 1889. Charles ???? Commissioner Supreme Court. Amin C.T.A. issued 20th day of November 1889.
