Last Will and Testament of
Edward Gardner of British Harbor
Trinity Bay, Planter, deceased.
I Edward Gardner of British
Harbor in the Electoral District of Trinity, being in possession of a sound
mind but weak in body do now make my last will and testament.
1st I do give
and bequeath my dwelling house, outhouse, net loft and shop with all other
furniture and fittings in the said dwelling house, outhouse net loft and shop
to my sons Arthur and James, my wife Mary Grace to
hold possession as long as she lives and requires the same.
2nd. I do give
and bequeath all land in my possession under cultivation to my sons Arthur
and James. I do give and bequeath all uncultivated land in my possession in
equal shares to my sons William, Henry Arthur and James.
3rd.
I do give and bequeath my waterside premises, wharves, stores, stages, and
flakes to my sons Arthur and James their heirs and assigns, provided that sufficient
room to erect an ordinary stage and store be given to my son William if
he requires it.
4th I do
give and bequeath the land and waterside property known as the "old room" to
my wife Mary Grace absolutely but should she pre-decease me to my sons William,
Henry Arthur and James their heirs and assigns.
5th I do give and
bequeath my watch to my son William, my four guns to my sons William,
Henry, Arthur and James.
6th I do give and bequeath all monies in my possession and due me at the time of
my death to my wife Mary Grace, begging her to remember the
needs of the church, should my wife predecease me the said monies to be given
in equal shares to all my children sons and daughters alike.
7th I do give
and bequeath my punt and fittings to my apprentice boy Samuel Dibbin if
he is in my employ at the time of my death. Signed Edward his x mark
