Will of Joseph Gale
from Newfoundland will books volume 9 pages 35-36 probate year 1909

In re
      Joseph Gale          deceased.

      In the name of God Amen This is the last will and Testament of me Joseph Gale of Grand Codroy River in the District of Saint George’s in the Island of Newfoundland farmer    I give and bequeath to my only son and only child Daniel Gale all I die possessed of namely my farm and dwelling and other buildings thereon with the furniture in my dwelling and the cattle and sheep on the farm.    also Eight hundred and six dollars and forty cents deposited in my name in the Royal Bank of Canada at Halifax Nova Scotia. And about one hundred dollars due me by James Keating of Channel and several smaller sums due me by my neighbors. I will that in consideration of the above my said son Daniel shall maintain my wife Cecelia in a manner suited to our station in life, affording her sufficient suitable clothing and support such as I have always given and would continue to give her.    I will and direct that my executor shall as soon as convenient after my death pay to the Priest in charge of this Parish fifty dollars for masses for my soul And that he pay thirty dollars for a stone to be erected over my grave    I appoint James Downey of Grand River the Executor of this my last will and Testament and I hereby confer on him all the powers needed for the execution thereof    Joseph his x mark Gale     In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand this twenty-fourth day of March in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine hundred and four in the presence of the undersigned witnesses who have each signed in my presence and in presence of each other     The will having been first read and explained in their presence     witness    W. J. Browne     Michael Hall    Simon Cashion
