Will of Francis F. Furneaux from Newfoundland will books volume 14 pages 252-255 probate year 1928.
This will did not contain an item number 10. It went from 9 to 11.

FRANCIS F. FURNEAUX.

I, Francis F. Furneaux, of Kelligrews in the electoral district of Harbour Main, in the Dominion of Newfoundland, one of his Majestys Justices of the Peace, also a Commissioner of the Supreme Court; Lay Reader in the Mission of Fox Trap for 37 years and ex- School Teacher having taught school at Middle Bight for over 32 years, being in fair health of body, and of Perfect mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament.
First. After all my just debts have been paid my property is to be disposed of in the following manner.
Second. I give and bequeath to my sister Anna Maria Haines, the years interest of one thousand dollars at Six percent That I have in the hands of the Royal Stores Ltd. St. John's, and also the yearly interest of any amount due to me that may be placed in the hands of the Royal Stores Ltd after my death. At the death of my sister Anna Maria Haines the principal sum of money in the hands of the said Royal Stores Ltd of which she used the interest during her lifetime I give and bequeath to the Diocesan Synod of Newfoundland for the benefit and use of Queens College the said sum of money to be invested and the yearly interest of same to be used for the training of men for the Ministry at Queens College. I give and bequeath to the said Anna Maria Haines a life interest in the mahogany chest of drawers.
Third. If Mrs Thomas Collingwood wishes to buy the Mahogany Chairs that once belonged to her father the Late Rev Petley they are to be sold to her at ten dollars each. My writing desk the Hon M. P. Gibbs wished to purchase some time ago. If he does not buy it, I give and bequeath it to Mrs George Bursell.
Fourth. Doctor Cluney Macpherson C.M.G. is to take possession of Doctor Bairds Portrait, Mrs Bairds Portrait, Mrs Sinclairs portrait, and the mahogany work table bequeathed to his mother by the late Harriet G. Oke.
Fifth. I give and bequeath to Lawrence Amor Hoskins a building lot where my calves yard is bounded on the south by the main road leading to Holyrood on the west by my own land, on the north by my meadow land, and on the east by land I have given to Charles Jeffers.
Sixth. I give and bequeath to Lawrence Amor Hoskins if he should live with me, give me proper attention, is kind to me, cultivate my land for my benefit and the benefit of himself, my dwelling house part of my goods and chattles, stable, cellar, and the land that all my erections are on, bounded on the north by land of the late Thomas Craig, and Thomas Hibbs land, on the East by land of Henry Hibbs, Charles Jeffers, and the building lot I have given to the said Lawrence Amor Hoskins under clause five of this my will, on the south by the main road, and on the west by land of William Mugford and the late Thomas Craig. The number of the land grant is 4228, the said dwelling house erections and land to be enjoyed by the said Lawrence Amor Hoskins and his wife during their lifetime, or in the event of the death of the said Lawrence Amer Hoskins, during the lifetime of his wife or until she remarries, and that at his death or Mrs Hoskins remarriage is to pass to their oldest son Reginald Francis Hoskins.
Seventh. My land marked on grant 4630 being partly cleared I give and bequeath to Lawrence Amor Hoskins and his son Reginald Francis in equal portions, the dividing line to run east and west, and each to have a proper right of way; the said land being marked on the diagram as sixteen acres, and bounded on the north by Joseph Hookeys land when out to my bounds, which is marked by a small pile of stones, south by my own uncleared land grant No 5546, on the east by Dawes Road and on the west by Crown Land.
Eight. I give and bequeath to William Samuel Furneaux Jeffers son of Charles Jeffers that piece of uncleared land containing eight acres marked on grant No 5546; the said piece of land is bounded on the south by Hibbs land, North by my own land, East by Dawes Road and west by Crown Land.
Ninth. That piece of partly cleared land I bought from Nicholas Dawe Jr., situate on Dawes Road, Kelligrews, bounded on the north by church land, on the south by the late Robert Dawe's land, on the east by Mercers land, and on the west by Dawes Road, the said piece of land I direct my executor to sell and the proceeds to be used to pay my debts if any, or to erect a monument in Fox Trap Church yard to my memory.
Eleventh.

  • I give to Mr. Harold Macpherson the fish globe and sage,
  • I give to my sister Anna Maria Haines one silver teaspoon marked "F" and five silver teaspoons.
  • I give to Reginald Francis Hoskins one silver teaspoon marked "J" and three silver teaspoons marked with a F in the handle,
  • I give and bequeath to Alfred Butler of Middle Bight at present residing in the States a ship in a bottle, this is to be sent to his brother the Revd W. S. Butler of Port-de-grave who will take care of for him until it can be sent to him. This bottle was given me by their father Garland Butler of Griguet.
  • I give and bequeath to Mrs Lawrence Amor Hoskins my organ,
  • I give and bequeath my brass bound oak chest to the incumbent of Fox Trap Mission to be placed in the vestry of the Church that is to be erected in Kelligrews to keep the Registry in;
  • I give and bequeath my medicine chest to Queen's college St. John's the said medicine chest belonged to the late Bishop Field. It is the one that was on board the Bishops Yacht "The Hawk"; the Late Rev George Hutchinson Incumbent of Topsail gave it to me over 45 years ago, but a bottle has been broken;
  • I give and bequeath to Mrs Charles Jeffers one heifer calf if I possess cattle at my death,
  • I give and bequeath to Lawrence A. Hoskins my agricultural implements and tools; if Charles Jeffers requires the use of them at any time he is to have what he requires; At my death whatever cattle, sheep and poultry I may possess, except what I have mentioned above, I give to Lawrence Amor Hoskins,
  • I give to Reginald Francis Hoskins my watch
  • I give and bequeath to Eva Myra Hoskins a small gold ring,
  • I give and bequeath to my sister Anna Maria Haines my mothers wedding ring, and a broken gold ring belonging to my sister Jane; also two blankets (white) and a white bed spread,
  • I give and bequeath my books, and especially my religious books, to my sister Anna Maria Haines and Reginald Francis Hoskins to be divided between them as may seem best;
  • I give and bequeath to Isaac LeDrew a mahogany liquor case;
  • I give and bequeath to Queens College St. John's two pictures given to me by and belonging to the late Reverend Benjamin Fleet. Incumbent of Fox Trap, The picture of the cross was given me by Mr Fleet on his death bed; and the other picture of the "Saviour blessing the Sacred Elements" was given me as a memento of Rev Benjamin Fleet. I give these to Queen's College as relics of a devoted missionary.

Twelfth. On the death of my sister Anna Maria Haines the Mahogany chest of drawers, in which I gave her a life interest under clause 2 of my will is to be returned to my dwelling house, and is to pass to Reginald Francis Hoskins.
Thirteenth. I appoint John Haines my brother-in-law to look over all my papers, accounts etc. and burn what of are no use. The wills and deeds in my writing desk he is to take great care of and when requires by the owners give them up, any will and deeds not paid for he is to keep until the amount marked is paid to him. I give to the said John Haines for looking over my papers etc. the sum of twenty dollars to be paid to him by my executors from my estate.
I direct my executor that when all my just debts and testamentary expenses have been paid, and all the terms of this my will carried out, that out of any residue moneys, if any, he may have belonging to my estate, he is to make a gift of fifty dollars to the Incumbent of Fox Trap Mission to be used by him in buying some article of furniture for the New Church that is to be erected at Kelligrews.
I appoint George Bursell of the Finance Department, St. John's as sole executor of this my will, and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former Testaments, Wills, Legacies, and Bequests by me in any wise before named willed and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this, and no other, to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 30th day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and twenty seven.
