Abraham French was born in Bay Roberts in 1842 and died August
29, 1903 in
St. John’s, NL
He left a will which is listed in the Newfoundland Supreme Court Index of
Wills as being in Vol 5. p451, but we actually found it in Vol 7, p 348 as
listed in http://ngb.chebucto.org/Wills/nfwillsf.shtml
We viewed a microfilm copy at the Family History Center, film #2070897.
He names three sons: Charles, Abram and Samuel.
But we know he also had another son named George, who died in 1901.
He also had 6 daughters who were not mentioned in the will: Emma, Isabelle,
Helen, Patricia, Elizabeth, and Francais.
His wife, Patience Louisa Crane, is mentioned in
the will but not by name.
Transcript:
The last will of Abraham French late of Bay Roberts, Planter, deceased.
In the name of God. Amen. I Abraham French Planter of Bay Roberts in the district
of Harbor Grace being of a sound and disposing mind do make my last will and
testament. All my land which my house is standing on I beaqueth it for my two
sons Charles and Abram French, my son Charles French is to have the wester
half and on wich is house is now standing upon. My son Abram is to have the
Easter half and my Dwelling House and out house wich is standing on my son
Charles land. My son Charles is to have the use of the outhouse as long as
he lives or until he gets outhouses of his owne My wife is to live in my house
with my son Abram as long as she remains unmarried and to have the use of all
my House Hold effects. I bequeath to my cow and calf to be her own personal
property. I also bequeath to my tow sons Charles and Abram my horse with all
Drags Slides and other Horse gear to be used by them as long as they both shall
live or get a Horse each of their own and that they air to agree in all things.
My land down the Harbour, should my son Samuel come to Bay Roberts to settle
down and live he is to have it for his oune personal property, but while he
remains away that land is to be the property of my two Charles and
Abram and
to be eaqueally devided between them. Abraham French Signed by witness William
