Will of Henry Fowler
from Newfoundland will books volume 6 pages 267-268 probate year 1896

Last Will and Testament of
Henry Fowler of Chamberlains
Farmer deceased.

In the name of God Amen I Henry Fowler of Chamberlains Conception Bay in the Island of Newfoundland, Farmer: being weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and Testament, that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I commend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial by the side of my dear departed wife in the Methodist grave yard, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty power of God. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life: I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form:
First I give to my two daughters Susanna and Jane my dwelling house, kitchen garden and the land from the main road to the pond and from the land I have already given to my Grandson Henry Tilley on one side to the land I have already given to my son Zacharias Fowler on the other side to be the joint property to my said two daughters as long as they live and after their death said property shall return to the rest of my family.
Secondly my Grandson Henry Tilley shall live in my house and be the guardian of said property till he is settled in his own house and have the use of stable cellar etc until he has provided for himself.
Thirdly, the land between Henry Tilleys west line and the local road and back to the south boundary I give to the widow of my son Henry Fowler and her son Frank Fowler.
Fourthly I give to Caroline and Robert Fowler children of my son Levi Fowler the land from Henry Tilley to James Fowler except the square I have already given to my son Zacharias Fowler for house and yard. The house of my son Levi Fowler now owned by his daughter Caroline she can sell, take away or live in, but the land it stands on belongs to what I have given my grandson Henry Tilley. The road from the main road to my house shall be the property of all the legatees for their joint use
My watch I give to Henry Tilley, and my musket I give to my Grandson Lloyd West Fowler & my sealing gun I give to my grandson Robert Fowler.

  • Lastly I give to my son Henry Fowler's widow the sum of eighty dollars and twenty dollars each to her four children, Frank, Janet, Eliza and Bessie.
  • I give to my son Zacharias Fowler Two hundred dollars and to his three children Twenty dollars each.
  • I give to my two daughters - Susanna and Jane Two hundred dollars each.
  • I give to my Grandson Henry Tilley two hundred dollars.
  • I give to my grandchildren Caroline and Robert Fowler Twenty dollars each.
  • I give to William James and Joseph Tilley my Grandsons Twenty dollars each.
  • The sum of eighty dollars I reserve to bear my funeral expenses and to get a headstone and if any money remains afterwards I give that to the service of God and the Church to which I belong.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal as my last will and Testament this Twenty third day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety five.
