Will of James Foss
from Newfoundland will books volume 9 pages 185-186 probate year 1911

In re
      James Foss          deceased.

      This is the Last will and Testament of me James Foss of Snooks Arm Notre Dame Bay in the Electoral District of Twillingate, Newfoundland made this Twenty second day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety nine (1899) I hereby revoke all wills by me at any time heretofore made. I appoint Thomas Pynn of Tilt Cove Notre Dame Bay as aforesaid and James May of Snooks Arm aforesaid to be my executors and I direct that all my just debts and funeral and Testamentary expenses shall be paid as soon as possible after my decease.
I hereby give and bequeath unto my oldest son Geo Foss now living at Snooks Arm aforesaid 1 ½ acres of land situated about S.W. from the water side and bounded on the southern side by land now owned by my Brother Andrew Foss of Snooks Arm aforesaid. I also will and bequeath to my youngest son William Foss now living with me at Snook’s Arm aforesaid 2 acres of land situated as aforesaid there being in the piece 3 ½ acres I also wish it to be understood that my son William Foss takes his 2 acres from the land nearest to land owned by my Bro Andrew Foss aforesaid
I also give to my oldest son Geo Foss ½ an acre of land inside Snook’s Arm River Head and situated about 3/4 miles from the water side N.W. To my youngest son William Foss aforesaid I hereby give and bequeath 2 acres situated as aforesaid there being 2 ½ acres in the piece as measured by the government land surveyor Mr Housen now living at Little Bay Notre Dame Bay as aforesaid To my son Geo. Foss I will and bequeath one Salmon net
And the rest of my fishing gear including boat nets etc in fact all fishing gear belonging to me at my decease save the Salmon net aforementioned I give to my son William Foss now living with me If my wife Eunice Foss should out live me she must have the privilege of remaining on the place and should she need assistance that assistance shall be found by my son William Foss and whenever we are both deceased my son William Foss shall have my house, front garden and all my household goods and chattels all of which I own. The Fishing room consisting of stage and store to be equally divided between my two son George and William Foss aforesaid. And this property must never be sold but remain for all time in the Foss family. James Foss his x mark signed and declared by the said testator and for his last will will and Testament in presence of us who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other have here unto subscribed our names as witnesses Jessie A Ambrose Wm B. Ambrose
