Edward Flaherty

 

Will of Edward Flaherty from Newfoundland will books volume 5 pages 180-181 probate year 1888.
This will is also recorded on pages 298-299 in this volume. The wills are similar, with only a few minor differences, and the comments of the registrar.

Last will and Testament of
Edward Flaherty late of Gasters
Conception Bay Planter deceased.

I Edward Flaherty of Gaster's Conception Bay Planter do make ordain and publish the following as and for my last will and Testament

To my son James Flaherty I will and bequeath (subject to the bequests hereinafter set forth) all my lands chattels and effects to have and hold the same during his life time and on his demise without issue I will and bequeath the land on which my dwelling house is erected together with said house the kitchen garden appurtenant thereto and sufficient of my ground for the setting or planting of two barrels of seed potatoes. To Ann wife of said James and Patience Gorman my granddaughter to hold the same share and share alike as tenants in common but in the event of the event of the death of the said Ann or her remarriage then said Patience Gorman shall hold the same absolutely. On my said son so dying I will and bequeath the rest and remainder of my lands and chattels to my four daughters Patience Gorman Betsey or Elizabeth Furey Annie Rorke and Mary Wade share and share alike.
And in the event of their determining to sell and dispose of said lands and chattels I will and direct my executors to retain out of the proceeds thereof the sum of twenty pounds and to pay the same for the offering up of masses for the repose of my soul and that of my beloved wife. I will and direct that my wife shall be supported and maintained by my said son and I impose as a further charge on him and on my lands the payment to her during her life only the sum of eight pounds in the event of her not being satisfied with said support she may sell and dispose of any cattle or stock now on my lands which she may determine on. I appoint the Reverend Patrick O'Donnell CC. and Richard McDonnell of Harbour Main executors hereof.
