Will of Margaret Finn
from Newfoundland will books volume 10 pages 171 & 172 probate year 1914.

In re
     Margaret Finn       deceased.

I Margaret Finn of Spaniards Bay District of Harbour Grace in the island of Newfoundland (widow) being of sound and disposing mind and memory hereby revoke all former wills and testamentary dispositions made by me and declare this to be my last will and testament. I devise and bequeath and expressly direct that all my earthly goods and property of every description whatsoever of which I may die possessed be disposed of in the following manner That is to say that all my land with dwelling house and furniture which I now occupy and all other buildings erected thereon be bequeathed to my son Thomas Finn provided that during my natural life time that he my son Thomas Finn do provide and maintain me and after my decease to give me a decent respectable and Christian burial. That all moneys held for me and deposited with the Right Reverend John March D.D. Bishop of the diocese of Harbour Grace be bequeathed to the following beneficiaries as named in this will.
To my son Thomas Finn I bequeath the sum of one hundred dollars ($100.00)
To my daughter Catherine Cousins I bequeath the sum of Twenty dollars ($20.00) but should my daughter Catherine Cousins not require the said sum of Twenty dollars ($20.00) then it shall revert to my son Thomas Finn.
To my daughter Bridget Fitzpatrick I bequeath the sum of Thirty dollars ($30.00)
to my grandson Richard Finn (of Richard) I bequeath the sum of Ten dollars ($10.00)
To my grand daughter Margaret MacKay I bequeath the sum of Ten dollars ($10.00)
The balance of money remaining in the hands of the Right Reverend John March D.D. Bishop of the diocese of Harbor Grace after all the beneficiaries as named in this will are paid is to be used by the Right Reverend John March D.D. Bishop of the diocese of Harbor Grace in the celebration of masses for the repose of my soul and that of my late husband John Finn: my two sons John & Richard Finn and my daughter Mary MacKay.
I hereby appoint my son Thomas Finn to be my Executor of this my last will and Testament
In witness whereof I have hereunto my hand subscribed by making my mark thereto after being first read over to me at Spaniards Bay in the island of Newfoundland this 4th day of January A.D. one thousand nine hundred and eleven. - Margaret her x mark Finn -
Signed published and declared by the Testatrix as her last will and testament in the presence of us who in her presence at her request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses. William Leary   Edward Finn.

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.

We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be.
