Will of William J. Ellis
from Newfoundland will books volume 13 pages 357-358 probate year 1926

In re
     WILLIAM J. ELLIS.     DECEASED.

In the name of God Amen.

I, William J. Ellis of St. John’s Newfoundland Builder and Contractor do hereby make this my last will and testament.

1st. I hereby revoke all wills heretofore made by me.

2nd. I hereby appoint my sister Minnie Ellis and my Accountant Samuel Ryan executors hereof.

3rd. I will and bequeath all my property estate and effects to my executors upon trust to pay the income arising therefrom (less the annuities and legacies hereafter mentioned) to my sister Minnie Ellis and my nieces May Quinn, Catherine Quinn and Josephine Quinn in equal shares during the lifetime of my said sister Minnie Ellis. Upon her death I direct that my said estate be divided equally between my said nieces May Quinn Catherine Quinn and Josephine Quinn.

4th. I desire that my said estate shall pay to my brother John Ellis two hundred dollars annually during his lifetime and a similar sum annually to my sister Eliza McManus during her lifetime.

5th. I will and direct and charge my said estate with the payment of eighty dollars annually to the Roman catholic Episcopal Corporation of St. John’s for two Requiem High Masses each year, one for the repose of the soul of my deceased nephew William D. Quinn and one for the repose of my own soul.

6th. I will and bequeath the following cash legacies to be paid in cash as soon as my executors can conveniently do so, namely
(a) to Roman Catholic Orphanage of Belvidere the sum of three hundred dollars.
(b) To Mount Cashel Orphanage three hundred dollars.
( c) To the Church of England and Methodist Orphanages two hundred dollars each.
(d) To the Permanent Marine Disasters Fund the sum of two hundred dollars.

Signed, published and declared as and for his last will and testament by the said William J. Ellis this 21st day of November A.D. 1925 in our presence, present at the same time, who in his presence and at his request and in the presence of one another have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.
