Notes for transcription (Geoff Martin):

Matthew Martin was the brother of Frederick Martin, my great grandfather. They were two surviving sons of Jonathan Martin and Elizabeth Tucker of Harbour Grace. Elizabeth was originally from Broad Cove and may have been a daughter of John and Patience Tucker. Stephen Martin was the first born of Jonathan and Elizabeth but he was born and died the same day in September 1834.

The will for Frederick Martin can be found here: http://ngb.chebucto.org/Wills/martin-frederick-13-26.shtml

Matthew and Frederick also had three sisters:

Emma, born circa 1840, married James William Tweedy who was from Scotland. They moved to Brooklyn where James died before 1900 and Emma died in August 1910.

Julia, born September 1842, married widower George Abbott in 1867 and died in October 1875 in Harbour Grace.

Elizabeth Rebecca, born April 1850, married circa 1880 George John Corbin, son of Thomas and Sarah originally from Poole in Dorset. Elizabeth and George moved to Brooklyn. George died there Jan 1935 and Elizabeth Rebecca in October 1835.

Matthew Martin married Jane Maria Mercer. She was the daughter of Thomas and Prudence Mercer of Mercer's Cove. Jane Maria Mercer Martin died in Harbour Grace 1 June 1928.

They had 11 children but unfortunately several died quite young. Not mentioned in the will are daughters Annie Bertha and Annie Eleanor Elesdale, and sons Frederick William, Thomas and possibly John Cooper Lewis.

Emma Martin wife of James Cron, died in Harbour Grace 12 Jul 1932 and James Cron died there in 1935. Emma Martin was the second wife of James. His first wife was Frances Ross.

Marion Martin married Henry Frederic Fitzgerald. He died in Grand Falls in August 1933 and Marion died in Harbour Grace in October 1933.

Alice Martin married John Lockyer of Trinity, John was first married to Mary Cook who died in Trinity 19 May 1904. John died of pneumonia in Bonavista in 1917,

The will for John is here: http://ngb.chebucto.org/Wills/lockyer-john-10-503.shtml The son mentioned in the will as Levelle was actually Neville. He was a son of John and first wife Mary. Alice moved back to Harbour Grace after John's death and in 1927 she married widower Arnold Webber, Arnold was killed in a trail derailment near Mount Pearl in 1937.

Alice died in St. John's in November 1952.  Her will is here: http://ngb.chebucto.org/Wills/webber-alice-21-651.shtml

May Martin married Stanley Woods Greaves. They later moved to Louisville, Kentucky. May died there in 1952 and Stanley in 1959.

Isabel never married. In later years she took care of Florence Parsons, daughter of her sister Bertha. Florence had physical handicaps. Isabelle died Harbour Grace 1960.

Bertha Martin married Victor Parsons in Spaniard's Bay in 1898. She died in Harbour Grace 14 March 1906. They had children, Rose, Florence and Frederick, Bernard and Bertha.
