          The Petition of Richard Anderson Squires of Harbour Grace in the Northern District of Newfoundland, gentleman

Humbly Sheweth

  1. That Peter Butler late of Mosquitto deceased, farmer died at that place on or about the 20th of January A.D. 1?8? intestate
  2. That said deceased left him surviving as next of kin his widow to wit Jane Butler and children to wit, Thomas Butler, Mary Anne Carroll, Sarah Hyde, Lizzie Kearney, Jane Beeso.
  3. That said deceased left property estate and effects within the jurisdiction of this honourable court of the probable value of two hundred and fifty dollars as per schedule hereunto annexed marked A which is to be taken as part here of

  4. That said parties next of kin have requested your petitioner to apply to your honourable court for letters of Administration to said estate as by consent papers hereunto annexed marked B and C do more fully appear.
  5. That no administration has been granted by your honourable court.

          Your petitioner therefore humbly prays that your honourable court ??? their Lordships the Judges thereof will be pleased to grant to him letters of administration to the said estate.
          And as in duty bound your petitioner will humbly pray.

Know all Men by these Presents: That we Richard Anderson Squires of Harbour Grace Gentleman Alexander Squires of same place Gentleman and John Casey of same place Clothier are jointly and severally bound unto our Sovereign Lord, Edward VII, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, &c, in the sum of Five hundred dollars, to be paid to our said Sovereign Lord, the King, His Heirs and Successors for which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves and each of us for the whole, our and each of our executors and administrators, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals.

Dated the 26th day of April in the year of our Lord 1901.

The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above named Richard Anderson Squires as administrator of all the estate and effects, rights and credits of Peter Butler late of Mosquito in the Electoral District of Carbonear in the Island of Newfoundland deceased, (who died on or about the 25th day of May A.D. 1881) do, when lawfully called on in that behalf, make, or cause to be made, a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased, which have or shall come into the hands, possession or knowledge of him the said Richard Anderson Squires or into the hands or possession of any other person or persons for him and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, into the Registry of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, whenever required by law so to do, and the same estate and effects, rights and credits, and all other estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased at the time of his death which at any time after shall come into the hands or possession of him the said Richard Anderson Squires being thereunto required, do render and deliver the said letters of administration (approbation of such testament being first had and made) in the said Court; then this obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to remain in full force and virtue.

We Alexander Squires of Harbour Grace Gentleman and John Casey of same place Clothier severally make oath and say that we are the proposed sureties on behalf of Richard Anderson Squires the intended administrator of all and singular the estate and effects, rights and credits, of Peter Butler deceased, in the within bond named, for the faithful administration of the said estate and effects, rights and credits, of the said deceased; and I the said Alexander Squires for myself make oath and say that I am worth property to the amount of two hundred and fifty dollars, over and above all encumbrances and over and above what will pay my just debts, and every other sum for which I am now bail, or for which I am liable as surety or endorser or otherwise, and I the said John Casey for myself, make oath and say, that I am worth property to the amount of two hundred and fifty dollars, over and above what will pay my just debts, and every other sum for which I am now bail and for which I am liable as surety or endorser or otherwise.

In the Estate of Peter Butler deceased

I Richard Anderson Squires of Harbour Grace, in the Electoral District of Habrout Grace in the Island of Newfoundland, Gentleman, make oath and say that Peter Butler late of Mosquito in the Electoral District of Carbonear in the Island aforesaid, deceased, died intestate; that I will well and faithfully administer the estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased, by paying his just debts and distributing the residue of his estate and effects according to law; that I will exhibit a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the said estate and effects, rights and credits, and render a just and true account thereof whenever required by law so to do; that the said deceased died at Mosquito on the 25th day of January one thousand eight hundred and eighty one that at the time of his death, the said deceased had a fixed place of abode in the Island aforesaid; and, that the gross value of the said estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased is two hundred and fifty dollars and no more, according to the best of my knowledge, information and belief.
