NEWFOUNDLAND
St. Johns To Wit I Margaret Steele of St. John's, aforesaid, Married Woman, do swear that I believe this to be the true Last Will and Testament of John Traves, late of St. Johns, aforesaid, Messenger, and I do further swear that I will pay all the Debts and Legacies of the said deceased so far as his Goods shall extend, and the law shall bind me, and that I will exhibit a full, true and perfect Inventory of all and every the Goods, Rights and Credits of the deceased, together with a just and true account into the Registry of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, when I shall be lawfully called thereto. And I do further swear that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said John Traves, deceased, and of which he died possessed, do not, according to the best of my knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of Four Hundred dollars

After three days from the date hereof application
will be made to the Honorable Supreme Court or

to the Will of John Traves, deceased, to be granted
to Margaret, wife of Angus Steele, sole Executrix
to the said Will named.

I William M. Clapp of St. Johns, Solicitor, make oath and say that on the 2nd day of October A.D. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety Six at St. Johns, I was present and did see John Traves, late of St. Johns, the Testator named in the paper writing hereunto annexed marked A, duly sign, by making his mark, publish and declare the said annexed paper writing as and for his last Will and Testament, in my presence and in the presence of Arthur W. Knight, the other subscribing witness thereto. That I and said Arthur W. Knight, then and there signed our names to such Will as such witnesses, in the presence of the said Testator and of each other, and that at the time of the said execution of the said Will the said Testator was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, to the best of my knowledge and belief.

This the last Will and Testament of John Traves of Saint Johns. I hereby revoke all former wills by me made. I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter Margaret, wife of Agnes [sic] Steele, all the property of which I may die possessed and I appoint her sole Executrix of this my will.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this second day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety six.

and in the presence of each other
subscribed our names as witnesses.
Having been first read over and explained
to the said Testator and he having signed
the same by putting his mark thereto.

The petition of Margaret Steele of St. Johns aforesaid, married woman.
Humbly Sheweth
That John Traves of St. Johns aforesaid messenger died at that place on or about the sixth day of December last past having first made and executed his last will and testament which is hereto annexed marked A. That no Probate of the said will nor administration to the estate of the said deceased has been at any time applied for or granted.
Your Petitioner therefore prays that Probate of the said last will and testament of the deceased may be granted to her.
And as in duty bound your Petitioner will ever pray.
