In the Estate of William Ryan, late of Placentia, Planter, deceased.
I Mary Ryan of Placentia, but at present living in St. Johns in the Electoral District of St. Johns in the Island of Newfoundland, Widow, make oath and say that William Ryan late of Placentia in the Electoral District of Placentia in the Island aforesaid, deceased, died intestate; that I will well and truly administer the estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased and pay his debts, so far as his Goods will extend: and that I will exhibit a true, full and perfect Inventory of the said Goods of the deceased, and render a just and true account thereof whenever required by law so to do; that the said deceased died at Topsail in the District of Harbour Main on the first? day of June, One thousand eight hundred (unreadable), that at the time of his death, the said deceased had a fixed place of abode in the Island aforesaid; and, that the gross value of the said estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased is Eight hundred dollars and no more, according to the best of my knowledge, information and belief.

In the Estate of William Ryan late of Placentia, Planter,
We John Harris of St. Johns, Merchant, and John Henderson, of same place, Merchant, severally make oath and say:
That we are the proposed sureties on behalf of Mary Ryan the intended administratrix of all and singular the estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased, in the within bond named, for the faithful administration of the said estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased; and I the said John Harris for myself make oath and say: that I am worth property to the amount of Sixteen hundred dollars, over and above all incumbrances and over and above what will pay my just debts, and every other sum for which I am now bail, or for which I am liable as surety or endorser or otherwise, and I the said John Henderson for myself make oath and say, that I am worth property to the amount of Sixteen hundred dollars over and above what will pay my just debts and every other sum for which I am now bail or for which I am liable as surety or endorser or otherwise.

Know all Men by these Presents: That we Mary Ryan of Placentia but presently of St. Johns Widow, John Harris of St. Johns, Merchant, and John Henderson, of same place, Merchant, are jointly and severally bound unto our Sovereign Lady Victoria by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c, in the sum of Sixteen hundred dollars, to be paid to our said Sovereign Lady the Queen, Her Heirs and Successors for which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves and each of us for the whole, our and each of our executors and administrators, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals.

Dated the 23rd day of July in the year of our Lord 1900.

The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above named Mary Ryan as administratrix of all the estate and effects, rights and credits of William Ryan of Placentia in the Electoral District of Placentia in the Island of Newfoundland deceased, (who died on or about the Fifth? day of July A.D.1900) do, when lawfully called on in that behalf, make, or cause to be made, a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased, which have or shall come into the hands, possession or knowledge of her the said, Mary Ryan or into the hands or possession of any other person or persons for her and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, into the Registry of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, whenever required by law so to do, and the same estate and effects, rights and credits, and all other estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased at the time of his death which at any time after shall come into the hands or possession of her the said Mary Ryan or into the hands or possession of any other person or persons for her, do well and truly administer according to law, that is to say, do pay the debts which the said deceased did owe at his decease, and further, do make, or cause to be made, a full true and just account of her said administration within twelve months from this date, or whenever required by law so to do, deliver and pay unto such person or persons respectively as shall be entitled thereto under any law now in force or that may hereafter be in force in Newfoundland: and if it shall hereafter appear that any last will and testament was made by the deceased, and the executor or executors therein named do exhibit the same unto the said court, making request to have it allowed and approved accordingly, if the said Mary Ryan being thereupon required, do render and deliver the said letters of administration (approbation of such testament being first had and made) in the said Court, then this obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to remain in full force and virtue.

Three days after date hereof application will be made to the Honorable Supreme Court or one of the Honorable judges thereof for Letters of Administration to the Estate of William Ryan late of Placentia, Planter, deceased, to be granted to Mary Ryan, widow of deceased.

The Petition of Mary Ryan at present of Saint Johns in the Island aforesaid, Widow

Humbly Sheweth

  1. That William Ryan late of Placentia, Planter, died at that place on the Fifth day of July A.D. 1892, intestate.
  2. That your Petitioner is the widow of said William Ryan.
  3. That deceased left him surviving besides your petitioner, ten children, all now living and all over the age of Twenty one years, except a daughter, Maud, who will attain the age of Twenty-one years in October next.
  4. That at the time of his death, deceased was possessed of certain property at Placentia consisting of land and dwelling house and outhouses and household furniture.
  5. The said household furniture has

    been divided amongst the members of deceaseds family and the said land and dwelling house &c are still undivided.
  6. That the value of the property now remaining is about Eight hundred dollars.
  7. That no probate or administration to the Estate of said deceased has yet been granted.
  8. Your petitioner therefore prays that your Lordships may be pleased to grant her Letters of Administration to the Estate of said William Ryan.
  9. And as in duty bound will ever pray.

          Dated at Saint Johns aforesaid, this Twenty-sixth day of June, A.D. 1900.
