In the Supreme Court of Newfoundland

NEWFOUNDLAND
St. Johns To Wit:          I Jean Murray of St. Johns aforesaid, Widow, do swear that I believe that James Murray late of St. Johns aforesaid Merchant deceased, died with a Will; and that I will well and truly administer all and every the Goods of the said deceased and pay his debts, so far as his Goods will extend: and that I will exhibit a true, full and perfect Inventory of the said Goods of the deceased, and render a true account of my Administration into the Registry of the said Court, within six months from the date hereof, or when I shall be thereunto lawfully required; and that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said deceased of which he died possessed, within the jurisdiction of this Court, do not, according to the best of my knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of Five thousand six hundred dollars.

So help me God

Three days after date application will be made to one of the Honorable the Judges of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland for letters of administration to the estate of James Murray late of St. Johns, Merchant, deceased, to be granted to Jeanie Murray of same place widow of said deceased.

I George Neal of St. Johns aforesaid, Auctioneer, make oath and say as follows:

  1. That I am well acquainted with the hand writing of James Murray late of St. Johns aforesaid Merchant, deceased.
  2. That I was his Clerk for many years and have frequently seen him, the said, James Murray, write his name.
  3. That I believe the paper writing hereto annexed marked "A" is in the handwriting of the said James Murray and that the signature thereto James Murray, is also in the handwriting of him the said James Murray.

Being about to leave home and not knowing whether I shall ever return alive, I hereby give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Jane or Jeannie Murray all my property of whatever nature or kind soever, and all my real and personal estate, and all my goods, properties, monies, shares and

all the papers, including 3 agreements, relating to a building in front of Evening Tel. office on Duckworth Street, are in possession of W. J. Herder who will give them you

interests without reservation of which I may die possessed for her sole and absolute use and behoof, and to be disposed of as she may determine, including my present businesses of all kinds with my best love and undying affection.
As witness my hand this fifth day of March, 1883.

The Petition of Jeanie Murray of St. Johns in the Island of Newfoundland, widow

Humbly Sheweth

          That your Petitioner's husband, James Murray, late of St. Johns aforesaid, Merchant, deceased, died at that place on or about the Sixteenth day of January instant, leaving him surviving your Petitioner and two children, one of whom is under age.
          That the only Estate of which deceased died possessed was Life Insurance of the probable value of Five thousand three hundred dollars.
          That your Petitioner verily believes that the paper writing hereto annexed marked "A" is the last will and testament of the said deceased.
          That neither Probate or Letters of administration have as yet been applied for or granted to the said Estate.

          Your Petitioner therefore prays that Letters of Administration Cum testamento annexo, to the said Estate may be granted to her.
          And as in duty bound she will ever pray.

Be it Remembered That on this 3rd day of February in the 63rd Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, &c, and in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred personally appeared Jean Murray of St. Johns, Widow, John Anderson of same place, Merchant, and John B. Ayre of same place, Merchant and did acknowledge themselves to be held and firmly bound to our said Sovereign Lady the Queen, Her Heirs and Successors, in the penal sum of Eleven thousand dollars to be had, made and levied on their Goods, Chattels and Effects, jointly and severally, if Default is made in any of the conditions following :---

Now the Condition of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden Jean Murray as Administratrix of the Estate and Effects of James Murray late of St. Johns aforesaid, Merchant, deceased, do make or cause to be made, a just, true, and perfect inventory of all and singular the Goods, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession, or knowledge of her the said Jean Murray as such Administratrix or to the hands or possession of any other person, or persons, for her and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, at or before the 3rd day of August next ensuing the date hereof; and the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, and all other the Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, at the time of his death, or which at any time afterwards shall come into the hands or possession of her the said Jean Murray or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons for her shall well and truly administer according to Law, and further shall make, or cause to be made, a just and true account of her said Administration, on or before the 3rd day of February which will be in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand nine hundred and one, and afterwards from time to time as she shall be lawfully required. And all the rest, residue, and remainder of the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administration Account, the same being examined and allowed by the said Supreme Court of Newfoundland, shall and do pay and dispose of in due course of Administration, or in such a manner as the said Court shall direct; then this obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to be and remain in full force and virtue.
